Are we any closer to deciding what's happening with the new 1.8 map??
(For me, I'd still like to be able to take a couple of chests worth of stuff into 1.8 (and then 1.9)).

For now we will have a new 1.8 map in a separate world. Players will be able to move items between the worlds/etc.
The 1.8 map will be wiped when we get 1.9 and we'll run in a similar way until retail. At retail we will have a complete wipe of everything.

yay i just got in at work, now i need a server to connect to to test....at least i can play SP for the time being
EDIT: that bugs still there where placing torches under water removes the torch but leaves the light there.
I've read about a few other bug reports on the Bukkit forums also.
I guess people shouldn't get too hopeful for a quick upgrade to 1.8 unless there are no game-breaking bugs.

Please be patient, it's a lot of work and we had no idea a release would be this soon
I kind of get the impression that the release *shouldn't* have happened to be honest. I assume Notch just got trigger happy as it's been a while since it was initially scheduled.
Yeah, you'd think they'd at least use the rest of today to fix bugs and then release it at 5pm.

I still don't think 1.8 is finished but guess that they figured out they couldn't keep fobbing people off with "leaked pre releases" so just chucked it out.
I expect a few little fixes over the next week or so, but still, really pleased to have this

Finding caves and dungeons are sooooo much easier in 1.8 now. Spent past hour playing the new release and already had my heart jumped a few times with running into a black abyss whilst escaping the creepersssss. Great big caves are found in 1 block sized holes near the coast, so watch where you run!! If you do survive the fall, don't look the Endermen in the eyes!!!
