*** Official *** OcUK OpenTTD server

Just a heads up, we're missing a newgrf for vehicles to handle the new cargos, which is a bit of an issue. Tomorrow the server will be going down, the speed will be increased a little from 5 to 4, and vehicles will be set to expire.

The eGRVts grf will be the one that's added.
 
Right, the server has been reset and is back up!
Changelog:
Added the eGRVTS newgrf for road vehicles to transport stuff from the new industries!
Changed Time Factor from 5 to 4. Speeds the game up a little without being too fast for people who can't get on as much.
Vehicles do expire now. Which means no steam trains in the 21xx's. The vehicle list was just getting silly.
Planes are enabled! There's a limit of 5 per company. Use them carefully.

Also, please use a little more discretion when naming your companies. Not to name names, but risqué jokes about truck drivers are out I'm afraid. Its an OcUK and LinkTart branded server afterall :p

The new industries are good but will take quite a bit of getting used to...just knowing what goes to what. I did notice last night a couple of new ones popped up in the short time i was playing.

Edit - i actually like that it takes a bit longer to make money...as a casual player it means i can log on, build some links and then leave it for a few hours / a day before coming back and building some more with my profits without the fear of being too far behind. I guess it's just down to gameplay preferences.

Yup, that's the point of the speed patch. It seems to be running great now. Though its more of a game that you minimize and check in on from time to time now, rather than requiring a ton of micromanagement.

Time works great for me and profit comes in steadily enough - plenty to keep expanding at a steady rate.

I've been sitting as a spectator in the server all morning, checking it occasionally, and there's not been anyone else in today, so the game has remained paused. Which is your company and I can tell you some figures.

Waiting for a full load is generally better since it means you have a vehicle in the station for long periods of time, increasing the station rating and meaning you get more goods.
 
Yeah, unfortunately there's not much I can do at the server end to help with that. The map's a little under 2Mb at the moment, so its not huge, but if you are too slow to download, it drops the connection.

While there are still two company slots left on the server, I'm looking into ways to remove inactive companies if required. I notice that dureth hasn't logged on in 45 years and Timbo_La hasn't been on in 61 years. So, if required those two will be deleted first.

There is no actual way to list when the last time a company connected, so I will be going by vehicle age. The game spams you with prompts when a vehicle gets too old, and if your youngest vehicle has been in service for 61 years (When the server has only been opened for 66), unfortunately that company will have to be wiped so that more active players can join.
Of course, it isn't the situation that this is required yet, just a heads up.
 
Hi! Sorry, not had any time to check in on the server, final year exams happening over the next couple of weeks! If everyone wants a restart then I'll do it :)
 
Well, I don't want to restart the server without:

a) most people wanting to do it, and
b) People being agreed on what settings to use for the next game

Personally, I'm fine with the speed as it was. Don't think making the map bigger will do much since space wasn't really a massive issue.
 
Hi guys, sorry for the silence, been knuckling down for exams! :(

Will get the server reset tomorrow, everything else will be the same. Maybe for the next reset I'll look into changing options/GRFs, but for the moment I don't have the time to.
 
Hmm, looks like its a patch rather than a newgrf, which will mean that frenchtart would have to compile a new server version, and I would have to remember how I compiled the windows version XD
