Here's our new server in all its glory! Kindly hosted by FrenchTart, the OcUK TTD server is now up and running, and available for any OcUK members to join.

The server can be found in the multiplayer list, as the 'LinkTart OcUK server' or add linktart.co.uk if you can't find it. The server is passworded, to keep things simpler. The password can currently be found On the linktart website, and will be updated there if it needs to change. If you register on the linktart website and join the OTTD group then you can see it and there's forums and allsorts there.

We are using a modified client to include the day length patch to slow the game down a little for people. This will have a noticeable affect on production, naturally. It also means you will need a separate copy of the game I'm afraid, as it has to be patched into the source code, its not currently an in-game option (Though it is being worked on!)
It can be downloaded from here and it contains the opengfx, opensfx and the original music, as that is what I have. You should be able to switch over any original graphics, sound effect, or download the openmsx for it by copying files over from your current install if you desire, and the openmsx can be downloaded in-game.

newGRFs running on the server:
UK Railway Set
FIRS Industries
UK Town Set
FISH Ships
OpenGFX+ Trees
eGRVTS

Now, as for server rules, its just obvious things really:

Don't intentionally block access to industries, large areas of the map or areas that another player is building in. If you find another player is building where you wanted to create tracks or roads of your own, do not try to hinder their build progress, but build around, over or under it. If they have built it in such a way that this is not possible, and changing it would not be unreasonably expensive, you can politely request that they make a modification. Also, massive land buying is considered unwanted on most servers.
Buying exclusive transport rights in a town in which you do not have any stakes also counts as blocking access to industries and is also frowned upon.

Don't deliberately sabotage your opponents vehicles. In OpenTTD this amounts to deliberately building level crossings where your opponents are running road vehicles and attempting to destroy them with trains. Aside from being unpleasant it will damage your own ratings if you have stations nearby. Another way of sabotage is parking road vehicles in roads that are being used by other companies for the sole purpose of blocking their vehicles.

Don't cheat to advance yourself within the game. Joining a company operated by someone else or starting another company to transfer money to your own company is unacceptable behaviour, unless the originally owning player made it clear that he or she is leaving the game, has no intentions to return and offers themselves or their resources to anyone else who wants them.
If you discover an exploit which creates wealth, gives an unfair advantage against other players or prevents the normal operation of the game server, report it to the OpenTTD developers so the vulnerability can be closed.
Don't abuse bugs or exploits because this only harms OpenTTD gameplay and destroys the gameplay of other people.

Chat system When using the chat system avoid the use of inappropriately gruesome or hideous subjects; remarks which are sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive or excessively obscene vulgar language. Also do not discuss the use or practice of any illegal activity or provide links to sites that contain any of the aforementioned. Remember that OpenTTD games are played by people of all ages.

Don't take revenge. If other people buy all land around your stations or cut you off with rails, road or with the buy land tools do not get "revenge" by blocking their stations or any of the above. This makes you one of them and the server administrators or operators may not be able to differentiate between who started it and may decide to warn, kick or ban both you and the other player who originally started it.

Keep company names clean please!

The server only runs when there is a player connected, otherwise it is paused. So go on, knock yourselves out! From time to time I'll try to update the map image as our industries start to build up.

So, its open! Go knock yourselves out! And have fun!

FAQs:
I get a version mismatch when I try to join!
We're using a modified client! Download this client to be able to play!

I get a 'your computer is too slow' message when I try to join!
Enter your password faster! Unfortunately this is an issue we're still looking into, not sure on the reason why, but that's the only solution I have at the moment

Everything's going so slowly!
Our server runs a patch to slow the game speed down to make it easier for people who can't get online as much. Days now take 5x longer, and since industries produce x goods per month, they will appear to take longer to produce the same amount of goods.

Look at all the industries! Its complicated!
Its a learning process I'm afraid. Essentially, there are some industries that produce goods. Lets call these A. Take what A produces to industries B. B produces stuff with these to go to C. And C produces things that go to A. And this makes industry A produce more! And so on. Its a cycle, you can see the detailed info by selecting an industry and hitting the 'display chain' button.

Screw you, I hate all these newGRFs!
:(
Unfortunately, a few people suggested them and said they were good, and nobody objected, so they've been added.

That's the server as of when I just left. Duke's leading at the moment, with me, Superowl and Windle not far behind. Been a pretty interesting first day, normal breakdowns really aren't normal, though!

***BREAKING NEWS***

UPS has been sold to Network Rail for a cutprice bargain of £36k. Windle, CEO of Network Rail had this to say. "Whilst we never want to see a competitor go under, Network Rail could not let the company be mismanaged and run into the ground any further. By purchasing UPS' assets, Network Rail are safeguarding local jobs."

Sorry matty! Your company went under and went up for sale to everyone.

No! I thought I had just done enough to make the company survive through the night :(

Ahh well, not really a problem, I'll just start again tonight and hopefully not waste so much money on stupid mistakes..

I'll try to build a company list into the first post as well. It'll be as accurate as I can make it, but no promises!

We know, I bought his company for £36k from the administrators lol

Dazzy, can you take some snapshots of the profit loss/income graphs if you're playing. Interested to see how my new routes are doing.

Khrest Transport will be owned by Khrest btw. I recognise his name from Minecraft :)

Yeah, I had a look around last night but was short on time. Not like Minecraft with wide open spaces to build in; gonna have to compete for the good towns and industries!

Yup! Just to confirm, there are no rules against competing for industries. Its not going to be profitable initially to compete as the limited materials will be split between two players, but eventually there's going to be no choice in the matter.
