***** Official OcUK Twitch List - Important Information in the Opening Post *****

I've finally (almost) sorted out my Dxtory recording and then streaming from Dxtory using Obs to twitch. I was wondering what settings you guys tend to use for twitch? Is 30 fps good enough? I've been using 3000kbps for bitrate which seems to be OK.

I did try 60fps @ 3500kbps but my in game frame rate for War Thunder tanked (bit much for my poor 2600k to handle :()

What resolution are you streaming at? 720p I presume.

Also, are you recording via DXTory as well as streaming or just using DXTory to capture the game?

30 FPS is more than enough if you're streaming. 60 FPS is overkill tbh in most circumstances and not really necessary.

Bitrate I'd suggest 2250-2500kb/s depending upon your system, resolution, upload and amount of viewers.

60 fps and 3500kb/s will kick your system as you've found out and it's overkill.

Realistically you're tanking your system as it's having to transcode the game frames from 1440p down to 1080p 60 times per second, record it to an SSD, output to OBS, transcode a 1080p input from 60 fps to 30 fps and then upload to Twitch.

That's putting a hell of strain on your system tbh, even keeping at 60fps will probably affect performance although it'll be interesting to test.

Do you need to use DXTory to record the gameplay? Can you not bypass it totally and use the AMD software to capture at 1440p bypassing the need to transcode 1440-1080 (sorry I have an Nvidia card so use Shadowplay)?

Just trying to save your resources to help improve performance.

It would be cool if we could arrange an en-masse group watch on peoples streams to help them get up the page rankings.

If we all dived into a stream for a while, that'd get more people watching, which in turn makes more followers for the stream & they hopefully become regular viewers.

We used a similar technique to jump start Battlefield servers :D

Just wondering if this is in force for everyone? Some were given a hard time over this.

Will be giving away a FREE copy of GTA V tomorrow (Tuesday) @9pm UK time.

3 rules!

1. Must follow me on Twitch
2. Must follow me on Twitter
3. Be in the stream chat at the time of the giveaway.

Random winner walks away with a copy of the game. :D

Just giving something back as well as hopefully gaining a few more viewers to the channel.

Done a redesign and upped my game a little in preparation for GTAV launch.

Hope every drops by with a chance to win a copy of the game :D

Apologies for not replying sooner :)

Oh you talking to Sllayt3r? I'm thinking of moving to Xsplit and joining too. Currently in Grinders.

Yes I did speak with Sllayt3r, he dropped into my stream and offered up a position on the team. Was well chuffed.

First of all well done to Gaz and Valkia. Sorry i havent really popped into anyone's streams for a while. By the time the kids are in bed and asleep I only really get online around 9pm ish and then i try and stream.

I have to say my streams are doing ok and Ive had a few new followers. Although i dont get that many viewers (usually 3-6 on average), im finding the same people are coming back to watch which i really really appreciate.

If i can somehow increase the amount of viewers i would be over the moon. I think i may struggle with this as i only stream for 2-2.5 hours at a time. Hopefully a few people will tune in this coming Saturday, im starting at around 8am and hoping to stream until about 8pm.

Im absolutely loving this streaming lark though and i love interacting with people. I need to up my game but unfortunately cant commit many hours. The other downside is i have to be fairly quiet and not too loud as the kids are asleep in the room above. Now being quiet is definately not me haha.

Thanks Cobra, much appreciated.

Followers are still always hard to gain and making them return can be even harder. The connections you make in the streaming world help loads and even with the help from Xsplit & Greenmangaming I still struggle with viewers at times. I do get lots of lurkers though, which I hope to change to viewers and followers but it's still tough.

Keep plugging away and using the /host feature amongst us all might help

It could be a few things, but I'd suspect it may be an issue with the Twitch server your connect too, or rather the route it takes to get to that server.

Also, the 3300kb/s bitrate & 60FPS will be problematic tbh, you might find a few people aren't able to watch your stream either.

Try a different codec perhaps and lower your bitrate?

Yep, the codec is x264 which is IMHO the best one for streaming.

60fps is overkill on Twitch tbh and you're encoding more frames than is really necessary so dropping to 30fps will help halve your CPU usage and may alleviate any issues.

The London server is normally the best for us UK folk but from time to time the servers can go a bit screwy so you have to switch to say The Netherlands etc, but try lowering your bitrate to 2500kb/s and 30fps first and retest.

Higher bit rates improve image quality but alienate some viewers as their download can't keep up so it causes them to lag or buffer.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers Robbi.

You could say me and Valk are at different ends of the streaming spectrum, but I put that down to an age thing. He's more down with the kids, whereas I'm more down with the parents :P

I played through Alien: Isolation recently and that was a fantastic game, heartily recommended.

Play a bit of Amnesia: The Dark Descent as well as Outlast which are both atmospheric and pant filling games. Get plenty of horror fans watching.

This weekend I'll be playing Warhammer 40K: Dark Nexus Arena along with the Devs and giving away $375 worth of gaming packs Free to followers of my channel. Also got a few T-shirts heading over from Canada to giveaway soon as well.

Great indie Dev team at Whitebox Interactive who I look forward to working with more often.

Just need the contacts Valkiia has to boost my stream to a higher level :)

Hope everyone's stream's are still going strong even if it's a hard slog!

Got my moment in the spotlight tomorrow as I'm streaming from approx 7pm-10pm on the Greenmangaming Twitch channel :D

twitch.tv/greenmangaming

Do drop by chaps ;)

Great work from everyone still streaming.

Good to see people stick with it as it is a very hard grind.

Valkia is off the scale now with his Overwatch prowess and good luck to him too.

I'll eventually get round to updating the first page again :D
