Just tired NFS: Shift with my 5870... Didn't do much hehe. It's fixed the framerate when it is smooth but most corners = slight gutter framerate (30-40fps)
This came from the hardocp review.
AMD provided this tidbit of information regarding NFS: Shift.
In another TWIMTBP title, we submitted a list of issues that we discovered during the games’ development. These issues include inefficiencies in how the game engine worked with our hardware in addition to real bugs, etc.. We have sent this list to the developer for review.
Unfortunately you will be unable to get a fair assessment of our hardware’s performance on this software until the developer releases a patch to address and fix our reported issues.

+1 shame on EA for doing this to ATI card owners, had a feelin it wasnt the cards at fault, and cant see EA fixing it either
Also did no one get these cards yesterday, or were they all online only orders
In the meantime, I'll enjoy the fastest single gpu card on the market while others wait for the coming of the messiah :- }
tested the autosoftware clocks
900 core 1300 stable with out voltage jumps and stock fan speeds
temps are quite high
but within spec
ATI cards after all love to run hot
and optimaly hot and if ATI built them this way then they must know what there doing.

Virus - seriously now, are they quieter than your 4870x2?
One thing is for sure, when the GTX380/360 come out if they are significantly better than the 5870 they will be a lot more money as ATI will drop the price.
Ran vantage on extreme 5870 still @ stock
X8213
GPU score of 8033
3Dmark06 at default
20010
sm2/sm3/cpu
7596/9921/5379
Probably CPU limited I guess for 06, I had hwmonitor running in the background this time and the highest temp the GPU reached was 77C
Crank the 3dmark06 settings up to 1920x1200/4xAA/16xAF and score is 16408, temp reaches 84C
Under gameing Definatly. 100% quieter.
utterly silent, no sounds at all at idle/ movies/ internet/ desktop work ect ect 100%.
What I'm wondering is wheres the traditional spoiler from NVidia - i.e. new drivers with magic performance boost - or are they running so hard already with the 4890 that their out of breath and have nothing left - or did both companies get such pastings over such things in the past that they do it in the monthly driver updates now rather than wait for the opposition to "release" ?
This is not dig at NVidia - it would be AMD in my sights if it were the other way round.
M.
4870 512 > 4870 1024 > 4890.
I think it safe to say ATI will have refreshed at least once by the time the GTX300 hits.
Sigh - did you even read what I wrote?
4870 > 4890 was a refresh.
4870 > 5870 was a generation.
So, I expect a 5890 refresh in 6 months as you say - NOT a new generation 6870. That'll be 15moths away.
The 5870 should fit nicely into my Thermaltake Armour+ case right?
