** Official omg I just got my 5870 thread **

Did anybody else notice the card is quite loud before installing the drivers? i was hearing this noise from the fan every so often that sounded a bit like capacitor whine but it seems to have gone now i installed the drivers.. i think it might be the fan

i hope it has gone at least

Ran ATI tool and there is a bit of noise running the 3d view of the cube as well..

trust me to be stuck with an annoying card

Both of my cards do it with ATI Tool's 3D Cube, but thats because it's running at 2000FPS. When just about any card puts out that many FPS you get a high pitch capacitor whine. You probably didn't get it much or at all before because the 8800 GT's were not pumping out as many FPS.

Enable Vsync and it will go.

And i've found the 5870's do it less than my 295, 4870X2, 4870, GTX280, GTX 260 and so on... so cant moan.

As long as it doesnt happen in any games i suppose, played killing floor and GTA IV so far.. for some reason though GTA IV seems about exactly the same framerate wise as it did with my 8800 GT's  was expecting more of a difference than this

I had killing floor open at the same time as gta iv silly mistake, i tried it again and works fine.

playing left 4 dead makes the card produce a noise every so often.. i never got this with my other cards.

annoyed with it but pretty pleased with performance.. shame

8800 GT's SLi, why the hell would you want to do that , as from the 275 gtx and upward outperform that sli by at least twice.

sell the old stuff buy new, dpnt make no sense keeping a old card buying the same and sli.

more heat less performance then a newer card.

big mistake buddy.

what a waste of the i7 you have, pairing it up with sub standard out dated tech.

Got my Powercolor 5870 this morning. Here it is sitting in my 800D. My case is starting to look less massive now :D

I am totally in awe of the card atm. Came from a 2900Pro so the difference is amazing. Been playing crysis warhead all afternoon. Went straight for enthusiast settings with 2xAA and its lapping it up at 1680x1050. Frames are in the 35-40fps which is just fine for me.

Also had a session on l4D earlier. Frames arent going below 100 with all settings in max and 8xAA 16xAF :) Didnt notice the extra noise that someone mentioned. The card is barely audible above the rest of the fans in my system which is quite quiet.

Very very impressed. Anyone thinking twice about buying this card just go for it.

Eh, those were his old cards, hes just whacked a 5870 in there :D

Its probably right that theres no change in GTA, as that goes by CPU, as when i went from a 4850 to a 4870 with the same CPU, i got no change in frames either, but when i went to the I7, my frame-rate doubled.

NP :)

If you check that guys other wallpapers there are some other similar ones done with the same software. I had one of his other ones as mine for a while.

Yeah 5870's going to be a lot more consistent than the 295, as its a single card, it doesn't have to rely on SLi, so will always run full pelt, where as the 295 will drop down to be a 275 in games that havn't been patched for SLi (so will get murdered off the 5870).

Its also faster in some games than the 295 at full pelt (using both of its cores), and can only get better once drivers mature, as its only running on beta's at the moment. :)

Christ did not realise these cards are that powerful.
