** Official omg I just got my 5870 thread **

All 4 of my 3780 Sapphires when i had them passed OCCT but my 1900xt Master does not.

Well ATI later implemented driver changes, so that when OCCT or FurMark is run on any 4xxx card and older, that card will clock down to stop it crashing. It will still use more load power than any game though.
Although with the latest drivers and OCCT version 4xxx series cards still instantly crash.

Anyone know how much longer the 5870 is than a GTX280 ?

Not sure what the length of the 280 is, but the 5870 is over 11 inches long, so id say if you have about 11.5 clearence, should be ok.

EDIT: heres a pic of it lined up with the 4870/295/4870x2.

5850 for me to now, also gaming at 1680x1050, which the 50 will handle with ease, as ive only got about 11, just over up to my hard drive cage, so i think its just going to be not enough, although i may wait and see what the Vapor-X is like, as thats supposedly shorter due to being a custom PCB, but only prob i can see with that is, the power connectors are on the back end, so it could still be a prob.

Then again the 5850 isn't that far behind the 70, so the 70 isn't worth the extra £100, ahh decisions, decisions. :D

I am in the same boat as you mate, Think i will just get the 50 and save the 100 quid as i dont think we would see much difference at our resolution.

Yeah, i think the 5870's only going to be much better at higher resolutions, its a bit like, you wouldn't buy a 4870x2 or a 295 if yer only running at 1280x1024 imo, doubt the 5850 would break a sweat at our res.:D

It is massive jsust hope it fits into my Armour+ case has anyone tried in one?

does anyonyone know the dimentionsd of the 4870

I recorded the sound of my system with the side of the case off, here is what it sounds like and i set the fan of the 5870 to 72%

the whining is louder it seems when i put the fan speed up, does anyone else hear it?

if that is what you are hearing when booting up windows, it sounds like potentially a faulty fan, if you are in any doubt just return the thing, it cost you 300 quid

I can't see why not, as Tom|Nbk has the non plus Armour, and hes got a 5870 in fine. :)

Videos always over exaggerate the sound of computers I find, this card is no louder than your 4870. Possibly quieter

Hold on he had the fan at 72% lol it never gets that fast.

I put the fan speed up purposely so you could hear the whine more clearly :p it's only audible a little bit at auto but just slightly annoying more than anything.

are there any aftermarket coolers that would fit the 5870 that are around now? i dont know what would anyone here do ?
