** Official omg I just got my 5870 thread **

Before - 4870 in my Thermaltake uber massive case

I've got a P182, and currently using that upper HDD bay as a "wind tunnel", with two fans to get air over my graphics cards.

I think the 5870 is so long, I will need to remove this tunnel? Which is a shame.

ahh fair enough i just havnt seen them about before. and wow that card is a beast. gonna HAVE to dig into overdraft for a couple of these...and i7....and a TJ07 :(

Christ, that IS massive. I could barely squeeze a GTX260 in my P180 with the middle drive bay in, bet that 5870 wouldn't fit at all!

Tidy those cables you heathen.

I have a P182 as well, with a ATI 4890 (about 9.5" long) I can't fit a fan on the end of the "wind tunnel", so a 5870 been longer will almost certainly require removal.
It isn't so much the card but the power cables that get in the way.

5850 is 9.5" I think. 5870 is 11"

not from what i've seen

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-285-review--3way-sli/13

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ATI/Radeon_HD_5870_CrossFire/11.html

@ 1920x1200 SLI 285's = 113fps

@ 1920x1200 5870CF = 149.3fps

to me that's not keeping up.

Techreport Review

That was the review I had time to read. To give a quick summary, using all the games they tested:

FC2 @ 1920 x 1200 4xAA/16AF: 285 SLI = 93fps 5870 Xfire = 120fps

Wolfenstien @ 1920 x 1200 4xAA/8AF: 285 SLI = 163fps 5870 Xfire = 144fps

L4D @ 1920 x 1200 4xAA/16AF: 285 SLI = 205fps 5870 Xfire = 208fps

HAWX @ 1920 x 1200 4xAA: 285 SLI = 114fps 5870 Xfire = 130fps

Warhead @ 1920 x 1200 4xAA: 285 SLI = 35fps 5870 Xfire = 38fps

Not that much in it tbh. 200 quid's worth? At the moment, no way, but I've no doubt drivers will improve the Xfire performance at a later date.

I guess I'll remove the "wind tunnel" with the two fans, and get a single faster fan to pump air in.
