**** Official OnePlus 8/OnePlus 8 Pro Thread ****

Anyone hear something about wireless charging, waterproofing and UK prices that I missed in that announcement?

Also, is the camera arrangement the same as is on the (underwhelming) standard 8?

I got the Euro prices - just wondering how that converts to Sterling :)

EDIT - prices up on their website now. £559 for the 8/128, with the other model not currently available. Comes with a free Sandstone bumper ordering direct.

EDIT - now £549. Either I'm going blind or they did an on-the-fly correction.

mrwhosetheboss says the 8T cameras are competitive with the Pixel 5's cameras

Edit - I’ve ordered the 8gb model at £549. The cameras will be fine and the rest of the specs are perfect for me, except maybe the lack of waterproofing.

That's a huge stretch. He was probably paid like mkbhd is.

If you're saying mkbhd was paid he still mentioned that the cameras were a bit meh.

OP cameras were always 'good to excellent' which I'm personally fine with.

The thing that I've found off-putting is that OP has now got two different coloured flashes and mkbhd said that there's no need now for that, I can't help but feel OP put it on because it looks more than it is at the back so that it looks like a Samsung s20/note at the back even though it's not.

Don't get me wrong I really like OP and was going to get the 8T but to me it's like the other one they had with this weird lens where you could see through things ie superfluous and a waste! Just can't get my mind off this big square at the back with all this nonsense on it! OCD on my part eh.

MMMM...not sure what to do now..I wanted a break from curved screens.

I'm confused with the display of the 8T compared to the 8 Pro. We've gone from 3168x1440 @ 513 PPI on the 8 Pro to 2400x1080 @ 402 PPI on the 8T. Is this because the 8T has gone back to a flat screen and Oneplus can't fit a 1440p display into a smaller, flat screen?

Is it a case of buy the 8 Pro if you want a bigger, higher res, more PPI screen and buy the 8T if you want the latest specced phone with Android 11 out of the box, a higher capacity battery and faster charging?

The Pro is meant to be the flagship still, but OP apparently aren’t upgrading the Pro line this year. The 8T cuts some features, includes others but, significantly, has a flat screen.

The 8 Pros should be on A11 by now.

I honestly think the new norm (save for highest of high end devices) will be FHD. QHD is a wholly unnecessary luxury IMO and I believe it only became a 'thing' because at the time (circa 2015ish) it was the only development manufacturers could wheel out to make us upgrade. High refresh has been a much better development and now that consumers begin to realise that FHD and QHD produce effectively the same user experience manufacturers are reverting to FHD.
Furthermore, QHD was big back then to allow for sharper VR usage but again that has rather fallen by the wayside.

The £650 8 Pro on Amazon is luring me, but I really want a flat screen. I'd have the S20 FE, but 6gb Ram is too low.
I wouldn't fully discount it just for that - however that's your prerogative.
I'm not just saying this to self-validate my recent S20 FE purchase but I have noticed that the 6gb S20 FE handles my apps much better (or more to my liking) than my 8gb 7T Pro. I always found that despite the roomy 8gb afforded in the 7T Pro its management of said RAM was never stellar.

In the past he gave the OnePlus 6 best overall phone, over the Galaxy Note 9. The Note was easily better, sw is debatable.

Ok well that's then, he wasn't all singing and dancing toward the 8t.

I am tempted toward the 8t. Not sure what to do yet.
