*** Official Opteron 170 Ocing Thread ***

I've had prime running since 10:30 las night and got sp2004.exe running since 1:30 this arvo and started a 32M super Pi.

When I get home I'll do a few benchies, such as 3DMark 06, so a HARD CORE cpu stress stest! as we will see what happens. But is there any way in which you can look any 3dMark programme with the free version?

Just a quick update for your guys. Just been playing with 3D05 and got this score.

Hi Clint,

Yes, the stepping of CCBWE 0550UPMW is at OcUK, if you want to know the stepping before you get it. They won't tell you. You will just have to order it and hope for the best. If it isn't what your after you can always send it back... Hope this Helps.

I have a CCB1E 0550 165 and a CCBWE 0550 170 was gonna keep which ever clocks best. Have 165 currently at 2.84ghz prime stable dunno now whether to bother with 170 as it is unlikely to beat this? What do you think?
Also you can still get 170's in stock in the UK for less than £300 dunno why overclockers are charging £352.

Even if there was a place in the UK you could get opterons from we couldn't tell ya, forum rules ;)

As for your 170 beating your 165. Its most certainly likely. What voltage are you pumping through your 165 at 2.84ghz?

You could possibly his 3ghz with your 170 with a good amount of cooling and a few volts. But the CCBWE 0550 UPMWs are a bit illergic to volts. :(

Oh well, good luck mate.

Those numbers are called the "Batch Number". I have a 408L in my machine and it clocks very very well.

What you have to undertand with a processor is that "Batch" or "Stepping" or what every has slightly different chararcteristics for OCing. It could be that Big.Wayne has managed to find himself a CPU that likes volts and there for can clock it through the roof. Or, more likely, its probably not going to clock as well as a 408L batch...

Have you baught that CPU yet Wayne?

That's nine 170 Opterons I have heading my way approx £2880

I have booked an appointment at the doctors!!

Err..? Good job?!

I think maybe you should cancle the orders, all of them and get one from OcUK, that'll sort it out...

Yeah it would. My memory could be a weak point as far as bandwidth goes though coz with the [email protected] (289x9) I had to run it on a 166 divider with 2.5-3-3-7 that could be down to a poor memory controller on the 165 though. If I can run this 170 @ 289x10 I will be very happy :D

Yeah, i'm finding the memory controller on my 170 is so good its mad!

So I'm sure you will be able to run at a higher divider for sure. :D

The answer could lie in three things.

1) You have a poor clocking 170 :(
2) You need a few move volts
3) You need better CPU cooling.

I have a feeling it could be a combination of all three. >_< But lets just hope it could just be a BIOS revision thing... :(

Best of luck Teggs.

Big.Wayne, what your problem dude?

Ok, egnoring the whole 408L arguement, I promise you that my CPU is 100% stable at the speeds I run it at, why would I want a un-stable gaming rig?

What would need to happen to prove to you that it is stable?

Agent.

Heh, cool man. Sorry for being agressive. must have miss read ya.

I'll get my machine priming now. (after doing several Windows installs to get this RAID0 working I think i've finally got it...)

And i'll post here again in 24 hours with some interesting results. :D

Hi Wayne,

I've got COD2 coming, which I think is dual core based, so I will let you know what its like.

I used to run a 3700SD @ 2.8ghz before and it would have a few little issues running BF2 @ 1024x768 (mazx details with all the AA and AF trimmings) but when I put my opty in @ 2.8ghz BF2 ran on 1280x1024 full detail with by fraps reporting about 80-100 FPS, drops down to about 60 in SF2. But I dont think BF2 is dual core. But it still boosted performance for me!

Anyways, back to priming... :D
