*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

It is a benefit but in PS2 there are almost NO 1v1 battles. You are part of a larger collective and while you might be at a disadvantage against a fully specced opposition there are plenty of ways for you to beat him. Approach from an unexpected direction, get the drop on them, pick on pre-damaged targets etc etc.

There are a wealth of ways to be very useful to your team AND rack up the kills even with the basic kit everyone has access to. Every good kill streak I have starts with positioning to take the enemy by surprise and get the elevation or angle advantage in the ensuing fire fight. That applies whether I'm on foot, in a tank or flying high.

You are completely ignoring the point, this isn't a discussion about tactics.

They need to make money for the game to survive. If everything was much more accessible it would be much harder to convince people to part with their money...

Sure! But how they got it setup is beyond selfish. 700 certs for a weapon? I spent 2-3 hours today playing just to earn 50 certs. Hooah.

So, it's going to look like am going to have to spend £20 for some SC and even then the weapons cost £5.50.

If they lowered the prices for SC or lowered the cost for weapons in game be it with SC or Certs, that would be acceptable.

At the moment, Sony is taking lesssons from Activision and over-chargeing everything.

I also be happy to pay £40 for the game outright with a BFBC2 style unlock system.

If stuff was more accesible, like... cheaper?
There's absolutely a chance much cheaper items would mean more overall purchases. I mean come on, £4 for a hub cap. Ahahaha.

No they really don't, it can take up to 4 passes with hellfire rockets to take down a sunderer. Which I think is fine, but they do not make short work of them...

I probably worded it wrong, i should have added "in comparison to other weapons" at the end. They're still the most effective way of taking them out IMO, when i'm in the air i usually have a mate up there with me going for the same targets.

People always say stuff is overpriced in free2play games when they are genuinely interested in the game. I would have a guess that SoE have done more research in to the optimum prices for their benefit then we have.

The fact you can be highly effective in the game from level1 is already pretty unprecedented in a free2play game. Some of the best guns in the game are there waiting for a new player from level1.

Some of the most important certs in the game cost a measly 1 cert point, Nanoweave armour rank1 etc etc.

Started playing on Saturday and wasn't sure if I was enjoying the game or not however by Sunday eve my mind had changed and now i've been sat in work today looking forward to going home and smashing some hours out with the outfit!

I signed up for the premium pack. I could not be doing with waiting for queue times and I get 500SC a month, not bad :)

I think i might just drop the sub when the first month ends. In hindsight i'd have been better off just buying SC and getting the weapons i want that way as the gain is so slow even with the sub boost. Months to get the various weapons or just buy them all instantly... meh.

Plus the extra cert gain %, always welcome. Wish there was a way to check cert gain though, ive got the 10% alpha boost and I think the 35% sub boost, going to have to try one of the cert gain professions at some point, see if it makes a difference.

Can only play a couple of hours a night, so I really dont mind paying for the game, spent £30 on alpha, £16 on an extra 6000 SC and 9 quid a month for 3 months. Still have 4,500 SC left and really, I would just be spending it on pandas probably if it werent for PS2. Make around 150 certs a night with my heavy so slowly working up my gear.

The president of SOE laid out what steps they're taking to improve the server stability:
http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/state-of-the-game-11-25-2012-4-45pm-pst.53189/

After that, I really hope they go after functionality - tooltips and real actual numbers on upgrades would be nice.

As for pricing, I don't see the issue. If you spend a similar amount to a normal MMO in PS2, you will quickly unlock all the expensive / good kit (Assuming £8+ per month).
I'm happy to just be f2p and derp around getting certs for now.

So where are the majority of players grouping up from here then? Sick of the mindless zerg rush so I want to find people who actually know what they are doing!

Im sure this as been asked before but the thread moves fast, what button shows the ingame benchmark tool ie the one that shows the bootleneck.

I'm trying to tweak settings to get the best looking game possible without bringing my pc to its knees in large battles. Also is there a nice thread that details the stress each of the settings as ingame ? Just so i can tweak faster.

What the hell are you doing running around on your own?

Way to miss the point of PS2

Skyrim > that way.

Ignorant.

Most of mine are 1v1 as well, even in huge groups, because people sneak around corners or hide and you're the only one that sees them first/gets there first/get spotted first.

Can't remember in my entire life having to spend that much for items, plus you will not unlock all the stuff quickly, even with 25% boost.
(By that much I mean £4-£5 for a simple weapon, grand scheme a drop in the ocean, for what you get in reality, expensive.)
They want you to buy the stuff, thats how it works, there are better/beneficial items you can buy, else nobody would buy them if they weren't.

I'm surprised that with everyone harping on about how quickly they think you can get stuff and how everything is balanced they've even put any money down at all.
There's a reason people are lapping it up and buying things, a very very specific reason. (No, not social items).

But yeah, air is useless without counter measures, if you're a slow boat you might as well land and give up, only an idiot wouldn't be able to take down another aircraft without flares! :p
Really do need other air support but even then all they need to do is fire a few off.

theres usually a triple sale around xmas, at least there was last year - but then again PS2 wasnt out lol. That would be worth splashing the cash for if it happens.

As to the game having any 1v1 interaction, that is seriously not what this game was designed for, and I would argue, not what the game is good at. Besides youre never really 1v1, each interaction depletes your shield or your health so you can never have a truly level playing field. Thats before you take classes into consideration. Sniper vs Heavy who wins? Depends on the distance between the two and your bought or non bought weps wouldnt make a difference. Now throw in other people, and really I would be surprised if you have more than a couple of real 1v1s per gaming session, same class, same health and shield levels, no outside interference, where the weapon you have makes a difference.

Alt + F brings up the FPS counter with [CPU] or [GPU] next to it depending on which is the bottleneck.

Depending how you have configured your keys.

Press Alt + F, and then press ALT again.. to get the mouse cursor off the screen :-)

There were times last night I was down to 0 FPS and the game frozen (obviously), and also things like 6 FPS when high numbers of people around... the screen textures flickering and dissappearing. (That was after several server restarts). Game is so damn flakey at present. I might O/C my CPU again just to rule out my CPU for low fps (which i know it's not).

What confuses me slightly, is why they could run planetside without too much hassle on very limited bandwidth, but seem to struggle when most people have decent connections (ADSL or better).

And what the hell is up with the 'warping' ? I believe it is a server symptom, but I do wonder whether some people run some form of app that fakes a bad connection to gain some form of advantage.

Have to say that sometimes it does feel closely fought when battling other classes, even if they are a mere sniper at close range. Also, it seems sometimes I can't seem to aim for ****. Just can't seem to hit people and they nail me almost instantly :-(
