I'm on ultra settings (UserOptions.ini modded) @ 1920x1200 and the lowest fps I've seen is 41fps - still perfectly playable at that fps.

I don't know what everyone is moaning about.

I would think youve just been lucky tbh, your system isnt exceptionally powerfull compared to many I have seen suffer from it. Do you spend a lot of time in air vehicles?

No - HA or Magriders.

Can't fly for toffee although I do pilot a Gal when required (that's ok on a joystick).

My outfit have started to do this - running twitch TV streams for the Platoon leaders/squad leaders to watch - maximum tactical info.

I wasnt having a dig I'm just saying that I've seen plenty of more powerful systems suffer the same problem. I assume your framerate is generally CPU limited in dense combat like everyone else rather than GPU limited so your graphics benchmark score isn't all that relevant and your i7 920 isn't really a screamer by todays standards (don't get me wrong its faster than my i5 750)

I looked at some videos and screenshots and topics discussing the Night Vision upgrade, looked pretty good.

In practice, it's deadly, not to the enemy, but to you and everyone else that is flying around you because you can't see them.

Works if you flying really low, but if you that low, then you don't have much time to really line up shots.

Maybe it be ok if you 1on1 with some ground vehicles but when there is 100's around you, it's bad.

By mistake, I mean complete accident, I havn't even used it, nor do I intend to...

Maybe they should look at those other fps games that have 16km2 maps with 2000 players on them and see how they manage it.

Maybe they should just increase the size of the maps/player limit? Then they have a ready made excuse.
 
Ive just upgraded so cant say much other than never had any problems with performance, only the ridiculous 'lets not draw the enemy' optimisation trick. Got a video of me standing on the first floor of the crown with no one in sight, jump down and run 10 feet to spawn and hundreds of NC start popping up all around. Its pretty rubbish. If anyone knows how to improve this, would be great.

Amigafan, lol at that screen. Whose streaming in MAP? Might have to give it a go, i have a spare screen.

I'm glad there is plenty of room for improvement, what they have done already is incredible and the performance is damn good considering the scale of events.

"Incredible" and "damn good" aren't exactly the words that spring to mind when I think about Planetside 2 performance.

I'm not surprised, you dont seem happy to make any concessions to the scale. There is plenty of room for improvement but I think they have achieved a lot.

Well to be honest, they might not be brilliant for a lot of people but then for others they are fine. I have problems and did a few .ini changes and although now the game doesn't look very good anymore and the render distance is rubbish im having a lot of fun and more than holding my own with no fps drops and very playable game.

I don't think any other game out there other than PS1 has the amount of stuff going on at any given time as PS2 does. If you think about it, why hasn't a game like this come out sooner? It's because most of the big dev's wouldn't be able to have an engine that can withstand what PS2's currently does.

I keep seeing people dogging on the performance issues, but then again these people never mention the grand scale of the game and keep mentioning BF3 graphics and performance etc and other games. If you were to do 2000 people on a BF3 server it wouldn't be able to cope, likewise with players systems.

So it is a lot easier to say in practice that it needs to be sorted than it is actually doing it. I have faith in the Dev's though and if they optimize it to how they want it then it'll be a huge success.

Except of course, you know, the scale with respect to elements such as render distance doesn't exist past what, 50 feet in front of you? It's kind of hard to make a concession for "scale" when you can't see what's actually there.

By the way to be clear I think the game is actually great, i've spent quite a lot of time on it already. The performance/optimisation however, is far from great.

Yeah and within that 50 feet theres only 200 players and 50 vehicles so I cant see how that could possible cause performance issues.

im having no performance issues on high

my dads 4 and a half year old comp with old q6000 series cpu, 4gb ddr2 800mhz ram and a gtx 460 can run this game fine on LOW. i know in the truely massive team fights he gets some slight loss and lag. but nothing major
