*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Ive just upgraded so cant say much other than never had any problems with performance, only the ridiculous 'lets not draw the enemy' optimisation trick. Got a video of me standing on the first floor of the crown with no one in sight, jump down and run 10 feet to spawn and hundreds of NC start popping up all around. Its pretty rubbish. If anyone knows how to improve this, would be great.

Nothing you can do until they improve the algorithm that picks what gets renders and what doesn't - you have 500 max objects around you that can be rendered, including vehicles. Right now it's just not great at sorting what is relevant to you and what isn't :(

Oh yeah, there are always 200 players and 50 vehicles within 50 feet of you, always.

Of course I wouldn't know this though, I can't see them.

If you ALWAYS have performance issues as you clearly illustrate above, even outside of large battles then you have another problem. My i5 750 and old 5850 was seeing 50-70 FPS on medium when out of large scale fights, my 670 regularly sees 90+ on High.

Me neither, I have all the sliders maxed and it's smooth as silk. i2500k @4.2 and a GTX560ti.

Don't doubt that people are having issues, but it must be related to specific hardware/driver combinations.

Still good enough for top 7 on OCUK ;-)

You're not playing in 1080p. That would be why you get such good frames.

Also. In that "ultra" .ini file you have texture quality on 0, you have ambient occlusion twice and you have motion blur turned off, even though you have it set to 5.

And as for the infrared in the Mosquito/Reaver/Scythe; in my opinion it's BRILLIANT! It helps soooo much, like when you can't see your target from the explosions you are causing, by using IR you can see right through the smoke and where to keep shooting.

There are definite CPU optimization issues to be dealt with, I just have a problem with people who insist the coders have done a half arsed job rather than the fact that this is inevitable when breaking new boundaries.

Except of course, you know, the scale with respect to elements such as render distance doesn't exist past what, 50 feet in front of you? It's kind of hard to make a concession for "scale" when you can't see what's actually there.

Nonsense - I've sniped and killed enemy tanks with my Mag's Sauron that have been 500m off in the distance sitting on a ridgeline - whilst in a hefty battle with lots of other enemies/friendlies around.

1920x1200 - higher than 1080p.

Yeah - I've changed it now - that was cribbed form an old post. As for motion blur - I don't like it (makes me queasy) so that's why it's turned off.

can you post your changed one mate, going to give it a go tonight. Im really mulling over removing my sweetfx folder as well, im not sure if its doing anything but I havent noticed fog in a long time. Maybe just getting used to it!

My frame rate seems to drop frequently to 30fps, on an i5 750 with GTX 670. Admittedly my i5 isn't overclocked much, so perhaps that's why. But when I alt-tab my cpu is never anywhere close to max load... strange! It could be memory issues though like someone else has suggested.

I play at 1280x1024 and get absurdly high framerates with everything turned up to the max. Doing well in game as well.

For PS2 and BF3 there is no advantage at all to having 1920x1080 - indeed, it's probably a disadvantage due to the larger screen size to cover with your eyes, the lower framerates and the hud elements pushed out of easy eye coverage. There's a reason why fighter pilots have the hud in non widescreen format.

There's a tick box in general options to center the hud elements, puts your ammo etc in the middle bottom of the screen. Very handy to have it right in front of your eyes rather than over in the corner.
