I think it's extremely easy to underestimate just exactly how many people are around you in this game at any given time.

Especially as the engine decides you 90% of them are invisible. It doesnt seem to scale according to machine power at all. I suppose its meant to be fair, but its fairly rubbish.
 
Bloody annoying when you're Infiltrator and just as you're about to pop some ones head they walk back a few steps and disappear! This is with the 12x scopes though.
 
200+ in a relatively quiet crown battle right now. I'd imagine it breaks 300 no problem later on.

Cool, although like I said from what I've seen out of 40 ranks on one character and on other ones.

Crown however is unique, it brings all three sides into probably the most annoying place in the game, attackers find it hard and defenders farm neglecting everything else around them, even if the only red (tr) on the screen is the gate and that! :p


I've seen Higby get asked on a livestream how many people were fighting in a particular area that was the Amp station they were in, the fight didn't even look that big, you will fight in bigger daily... he said over 400.

Not pricesly, at least not for your side, /who will tell you every single person on your side in render range.
Of course when it comes to those outside it, who cares, if you're in the middle of an amp station as infantry you can see everything inside the walls and outside to some extent, any further they may as well be on a different server, or planet, or game!

Also, let's not pretend for a moment that when higby streams people do not all zerg the area to be on screen, fight next to him or kill him.

Every "large" battle I've been taking numbers, it could be a mattherson thing (I play on a US server) and gauging what the enemy sizes will be, remember my quote that I've never ever had an even fight, it's always zerg or be zerged. Can also use the score screen with some clever timing. Averages are below 100 for my side.


I have no doubt battles get that big, but I've yet to personally witness it, I'd love to just to see what happens!

Now, I wish they'd fix getting shot in a tank/air by not rendered people, not even the projectiles render, so, so annoying.

Edit: I think render distances are adaptive to how many people are on, not client side but server side.
It would explain a lot more for heavy fights, tested the min/max heights as a bomber and it changes in the same locations all the time.

I don't think fairness enters into the rendering issue. It's an optimization that is required to maintain performance, just right now it's not doing a great job of choosing what is relevant to render and what isn't.

That tweet Smed made about the big January performance fix I'm half hoping isn't actually increased FPS but the same FPS with more stuff being rendered.
 
part-timer i just finished playing tonight. long time since ive done this, but not my record that was ravensheild when it came out, got home form work on a friday night and play 12 hrs straight till 6am...

If your talking about the max I disagree completely, the max is/should be an indoor tank, you wouldn't try and knife a tank. They are already a little too vulnerable to small arms fire let alone knives.
 
If people here weren't talking about it, I wouldn't even know there was a rendering issue. Does it start doing it to maintain an acceptable fps or something? Bit unfair on lower end systems (and the ones that PS2 just doesn't like) if thats' the case.
 
The rendering thing is ********.

I was in piloting a Liberator (Level 4 Flak Armor) with a gunner buddy on team speak and we started getting pummeled from something. Couldn't see any tracers or infantry on the ground below us.

Next thing we know. We go from 90%+ health to 0% in a matter of seconds.

What killed us? 3 AA Maxes.

They could see us. We could not see them.
 
It's bad enough even with sniping never mind lib flying :o

Yup, love being shot and having the markers show me the direction only to see no one at all. It is getting quite annoying, especially paired with some of the most annoying bugs and scatmax's instagibbing you i am starting to feel jaded playing this.

I have several thousand kills on my dual hacksaw NC max.. you should try it, it's really a beautiful thing to behold when you get the extended mag on both arms you turn from peaking and instagibbing 1-2 people to charging head long and clearing entire rooms solo :D

There is a 500 object limit that can be rendered around you, the engine has to do it's best to decide which 500 objects are the most relevant to you. Right now it's not doing a great job of that and in all probability 500 is probably just too low considering the amount of people + their deployables/vehicles that will be in big fights.

That is why I'm hoping that the big performance thing Smed is going on about for this month isn't just some flat 5-10fps increase from tidying up some code but is actually increasing the amont of objects rendering whilst keep the same framerates.
 
Anyone elses server locked? Tried a few times in past few hours and been unable to log on.

On anotehr note I mentioned a few days ago I instantly cancelled my 3 month subscription incase I forget about it. Doing this lost me my 500 a month 500SC and I was pretty annoyed since I was unaware of this.

Just got my ticket back from CS and they said I could just buy another 3 months and get back on to the auto renewal. This wouldn't charge me twice when I'm already on the 3 month, or extend my sub to 6 months right? Since I just want to get back on the auto renewal to qualify for the credits.

That thing is overpowered as hell, I was a MAX vs one of those and he did 100% of the damage in under a second, what did I do with my two faction equivelant weapons? Not even his first bar of HP was gone, mind you he did have the jump on me.

Yet when I sneak up on enemy maxes and use mine it takes considerably longer, I hate this whole idea that some factions have better x/y/z if setup and/or bought certain things. It annoys the **** out of me when it comes to balance, it should've been 1:1 across the whole board.

Of course doesn't mean I haven't gone on killing sprees with my max (TR) and laughed uncontrollably, but it's not just maxes.
If anything you guys should get longer range weapons as an option and other should get instagib shotguns.

I wouldn't mind them nerfing the damage of the shotguns but making them more viable at medium ranges. I wouldn't say they were particularly OP but there is one difference between the three MAX units and that is you have a chance to run away from the TR/VS one, the NC one insta-explodes you. But they've made it completely CQC based, stay beyond 5m and all of a sudden you have that chance to run, beyond 10m and he is now scratching a few bars of shield off you. I love it when TR/VS maxes try and rush me with my dual hacksaws because they're setting themselves up to be annihilated, however play smarter, ensure you stay out of 5m range and I can't do anything to you.

A lot of this is the situational use of maxes, they dont have enough surviveability/accuracy at medium range so the most effective use (excluding AA) is MAX crashing / CQC. This makes the NC MAX dominant because in almost all situations you would actually want to be in a MAX, you are at its perfect range. I'm not shouting for a nerf though, I think things will even out as they add more varity to the maxes through abilities and weapons. Hopefully they will give them a bit of an overhaull as well, I still miss the old PS1 MAX where small arms fire was more of an iritation than a real threat and you really needed explosives to take them out.

Edit: Also the TR MAX weapons should have the fire rate and noise of the MCG even if the damage was the same as the current weapon. If it made the noise of 2xMCG I wouldn't care how effective it was I'd feel like a hero!

Ive always thought NC maxes were fine, ive ocassionally had the oh **** moments when i came around a corner and was standing in front of one, but defending or attacking they have a miserable time at range.
