*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Took long enough :P

Also, if anyone is either a streamer or website designer here, then I would like some help with PlanetSideTV.com.

The idea behind the site is to be the main area to see Planetside1/2 footage and streaming events and much much more.

So if you have the ability to stream gameplay, have an outfit you want to promote, a thirst for knowledge about the game, can do some modern website design or just want to play with a great bunch of guys then get in contact with me here or on the site. (Pm here or on planetsidetv.com to the name MyMeatStick)

Beta soon (TM)

I think I saw something about PlanetsideTV before and thought it could be quite an interesting project. Is it your idea or are you one of the people that are helping out?

If we get an OcUK outfit set up then we might stream some stuff to show our leet skills ;) We'll probably let you know closer to beta or release but thanks for reminding us about this :)

The leet skills of us all crashing air vehicles into the ground no doubt, well that's at least how it will work for me for a while no doubt.

Plus crashing into each other, getting lost and any other mistake that is possible :p

I think I'll avoid using any vehicles, I'll just be a light assault guy with a jet pack instead, atleast I can't get too lost that way.

The OST's for each faction seem to have leaked out, I'm loving the style so far.

Not the finished product yet though:

It's so close I can taste it.

Waiting for that First Platoon email now ;)

And just realised what today is - browsed my SOE account and under Planetside:-

I'm not sure I've ever been this excited for a game before, they should do a release for required specs, so I can start building my brother and dad's computer.

I was trying not to get excited and keep in mind its an SOE game but I can't help it after E3... just hope it lives up to it's potential.

Ok I bought a copy of PC Gamer and regard my code for priority beta access :D

When do they estimate beta to begin? Can't wait! :D

I think they said beta would be starting in a few weeks, although I suspect they will invite a small amount of people initially and slowly build it up and bring more people in. There is very little point in them letting 150,000 people in and it crashing instantly as they won't learn anything from that.

One thing I am interested in is are SOE going to make any profit from this game? There isn't a box to buy and no sub to pay(which is good) however many MMO's who also use that business model have a much lower production quality, made with a smaller team and probably won't spend anywhere near as much as SOE will on advertising. I know people are willing to pay money to customise their characters, but I'm not sure if that will be enough money to cover the costs of production, marketing, servers etc. I hope it works as hopefully it would mean other companies go down the same route which can only be good for the MMO market.

Also for anybody interested in being part of the OcUK outfit, could you please register here and post in the Planetside 2 sign up thread? Would like an indication of how much interest there is for this idea. Also, to anybody that was in the Planetside 1 OcUK outfit, what was it called?

Couldn't we all just put our names down here and have the op put up a list or something along those lines I think thats the norm iirc.

pro gamers + "elite" clans are already playing for fine tuning and balancing from the rumours I've heard.

I'll be up for joining an outfit, depends how the whole thing works and what "race" everyone wants to be.

I think it will make money, if it lives up to what I'm expecting I'll be willing to drop £40 to customise purely because it's not a pay to win model.

I'd be tempted to buy a few boosters personally, I know it's not usually a done thing but the certs system looks like a lot of fun!

Assuming certs/boosters are relevant.

Lotro has made more money since going FTP and so have a lot of other big MMOs. It is a gamble going FTP from the start but they will have a lot more people playing the game on day 1 then they would with a box cost and sub model. The huge number of players should offset the loss from no box cost but only time will tell.

It does appear that mp games are moving towards a FTP model with micro transactions and they seem to be doing well as for some reason people will pay anything for a hat :p

The last few guilds/outfits that I have been involved in from here have all involved people signing up on seperate forums because posts declaring interest in a guild/outfit can often get lost on these forums due to other talk going on whereas using a seperate forum makes it much easier.

Heard that also, makes sense really, they have more experience with FPS' than the "average" gamer and most won't have played the original so can offer more impartial opinion.

There isn't much info on outfits so not sure exactly how it works however I'm hoping we atleast have enough people to fill up a few galaxies to drop over targets.

The original had 1 expansion pack, that was basically it. There's no NEED to release additional content so long as there's good reason to keep fighting over the landmass they have (which, from PS1 - there is).
The only thing they will need to pay for is server hosting. I think they expect a decent chunk of players to be happy to throw £10 a month at it for unlocks on gear configs which while not making the player more powerful add quality of life.

For example, lets say the Maxx burster AA. In the original, each faction's maxx's had a different way of doing each role. In the case of the AA maxx the terrans one fired "dumb" flak, the vanu was a heat seeker etc etc.
Now they were obviously intended to be balanced, the terrans flak hit quite a lot harder but being able to lock and fire is considerably easier.
I could see the later being the sort of option the paid upgrades might bring.

Outfits from the first game were an "any size" type thing. Your outfit was a seperate thing from the group you were playing in. Think like wow and guilds. You had a guild but you still did random things with random people.
From the first squads were capped at 10 people you could then have 3 squads join together as a platoon. You could, of course, have all the people from the same outfit though.

I'd really love to see them make the voice comms in game awesome but I doubt it will happen. Talking on teamspeak/vent/mumble when there's 30 people spread over as many vehicles gets confusing when talking between driver and gunner. When it's done right though it makes running a vehicle between 2/3 people AWESOME (everyone is involved as the turrets field of fire is generally fairly restrictive - you HAVE to steer the vehicle vocally with the driver while looking down the gun sight).
Would love to see a system of switching between vehicle, squad, platoon on a built in voice chat.
