Ive always thought NC maxes were fine, ive ocassionally had the oh **** moments when i came around a corner and was standing in front of one
I agree with you , not saying they are OP I just think you should have one of those moments when you come round the corner to see any MAX on your own, they just dont seem threatening enough in PS2.
 
Give me back my planetside 1 quasar, I could do some nasty stuff with the jumpjet max. I really could :)

Maybe thats why I play light assault so much, that and engineer. (Although engineer is used just so I can repair my vehicles)
 
That thing is overpowered as hell, I was a MAX vs one of those and he did 100% of the damage in under a second, what did I do with my two faction equivelant weapons? Not even his first bar of HP was gone, mind you he did have the jump on me.

Yet when I sneak up on enemy maxes and use mine it takes considerably longer, I hate this whole idea that some factions have better x/y/z if setup and/or bought certain things. It annoys the **** out of me when it comes to balance, it should've been 1:1 across the whole board.

Of course doesn't mean I haven't gone on killing sprees with my max (TR) and laughed uncontrollably, but it's not just maxes.
If anything you guys should get longer range weapons as an option and other should get instagib shotguns.

Personally I think they should leave the shotguns alone and increase Max units resistance to small arms fire. This would solve your issue with anti-infantry weapons shredding you in a max but keep them as a dangerous opponent for infantry who should have to use explosives and rockets to take it out because right now people don't fear them as they should a lot of the time they think great more easy xp.

The SCU shield is located on the platform above CC A inside the tech plant, the SCU itself is in a tunnel below the main vehicle bays. It is accessible through an external door and from the internal shield near the V-Bay. It should be primary objective when attacking a tech plant but its not easy - get a squad of light assaults up over the shield and take that generator down or drop a beacon near the side and hot drop onto the roof. Pop the Spawn Control unit and bobs your uncle, pretty much checkmate.

I like defending generally (shame i seem to be one of the few) - tech plants are not impossible; the first thing to do is pop an AMS Sunderer and set it up - you know - actually INSIDE THE BUILDING (who'dd have thunk it?), mine up the SCU gen then get outside and slap a mine on the vehicle shield generator. Then I usually get to the roof and make sure any beacons are killed, anyone hot dropping onto the roof is killed and the turrets stay up for as long as possible. If A starts to go or the SCU gen starts to overload just go down the teleporter and retake it.

Thats what i thought, but it Tumas i had the problem, i went back last night for a look round and found the SCU in a external building to the south of the main one. Between the main building and the spawn point. Has it been moved with update, or is Tumas diffrent.
 
Finding my self getting bored of this now... Keep going on and giving up after 10-15 mins after i've either died to a liberator dalton or got stuck in a spawn trap battle. It's just so god damn repetitive and the lack of reward for defending and/or playing supportive roles just mean it's a waste of time doing anything but the above. Just played engineer while we were pushing from the crown to TI in a huge tank zerg, within 2 minutes i was no longer getting points/certs for repairing or dropping ammo. So stupid.

It does get boring very quickly - some of the battles are epic, but they are few and far between. It is great for a free game though and it is nice to be able to just casually drop in now and again.
 
I'm not bored myself, but then I'm in an outfit with a good bunch of people so to some extent I guess we make our own fun.

Perhaps just take a break for a couple of weeks, there should be a patch this month and they're going to put up their 6 month plan I think for community critique so perhaps some things you don't like will change for the better?
 
I'm also in a good outfit. That doesn't stop it being laughably repetitive, there's only so many times you can go sneak capture an enemy tech plant for zero reward and see it get taken back within 5 minutes of capture before it gets old.

I think one of my main gripes is the fact there is very little infantry vs infantry battle. Except for the bio labs (which even then you end up with tons of air support bombarding your sunderers) it's one big cluster **** of tanks and air.

Also i dislike how easy it is to "waste" certs, bought 2 different airframes for the reaver thinking you could use them together but nope.

I'm also not sure why i can't use tank mines and ammunition package on my engineer? Tank mines are in the utility slot, turrets and ammo are in the ability slot. Yet in the loadout ammo comes under utility. I'm pretty sure i saw a video earlier of a Vanu using ammo + mines, maybe that's another fail with NC..
 
Skillmister, if you get your MANA turret out and press B it will change to an ammo pack, why this feature is barely documented I've no idea! But at least you can fulfil 3 roles still, turret (I find them useless personally), mines/c4 and finally ammo pack.

I can get down with that!

The only time I use a max personally (and mostly see others) is close range, regardless if it's NC/Vanu/TR it's always close up battles like bio labs. While I have had some luck in some tech plants outdoors running from cover to cover, generally when I come across one it's not a good day for them.

Creating disparities like this in games is a flaw because one inevitably ends up being used in excess during it's preffered instances, toppling it's opponents unless you create alternative and chaotic battle strategies such as "throw more bodies at it zerg like". I've spent god knows how long playing arma in a proper/even scenario for the most part and fully understand the force multiplier units have, planetside 2 simply doesn't care and it shows daily, I still love it though.

But it's amazing how a really fun fight on the ground can be broken up in a matter of 30 second by one Liberator team. ( I was the bomber :|)
No team had air, it was just an old fasioned shootem up at ground level, then we just one upped and won, but it was just, eugh... good timing?

The only time i ever MAX up is for anti air with double burster. But again the problem arises in that you get zero reward for doing so unless the aircraft die, which usually only happens when you have 3-4+ MAXs and you can kill the aircraft before you have shown up on their screen thanks to draw distance :/

As NC the AI variant are especially useful when defending Bio labs and towers thats mostly where I see other AI maxes too. Other than that yes its mostly bursters that I see. General opinion on the anti-vehicle max seems to be that its useless unless you're VS in which case its 'ok' but not great.

Certainly expecting/hoping for some changes to Libs/air in general in the patch.
 
F2P worth it? old school PS player myself but no idea if my system would run this

Definately worth trying, if you can still access the SOE account you made for PS1 you won't need to sign up with Pro Sieben (who are handling new european players).

Some people I know play it F2P and whilst it takes longer for them to unlock things or they occasionally have to wait to change continent they seem happy enough. Try it, see if it works if you enjoy it enough you can always sub or pick up some station cash at some point later (preferably when they do a double or triple deal) to unlock some weapons more quickly, or just play and spend nothing at all.

Just had a quick blast, jumped in a liberator as bomber, life is easy for liberator teams isn't it? would have got far more kills if we all had voice comms and a bit of experience.

I think my outfit has pretty much dispersed now, so will be on the look out for a new one, Woodman VS if anyone has any suggestions?
