**Official Portal 2 thread**

I'd just like to mention Valve Time.

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike and Half-Life) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Portal 2 for shipment this coming holiday season.

Valve Time: (This year's) holiday season
Actual Time: Fall of next year

Either Valve really, really don't want to work on a Half Life game atm, or they are, and it's absolutely massive.

My cynical side thinks they just don't want to do it right now, hence various L4D and other games and not a sniff of HL.

If only to get some amount of news on it, I wouldn't be too bothered if they announced they're instead making it a full, proper Half Life 3 and that it won't be released until 2011 at the earliest...

As for the game on topic, again: Oh yeah. :D

.

they aren't massive they're just well designed.

I think if just after valve finish a level someone comes up with a great idea for it and everyone agrees it's great they'll scrap the finished good level and make the new great level :D

It's Valve's fault, they promised us small bundles of content with less time between each release as a viable alternative to waiting ages for HL3.

well... in comparison to the time between HL and HL2, the delay between the episodes is much less.

from HL1 to HL2 was a SIX YEAR delay, and from HL2 to EP1 only 2 years, and only another year and a half from EP1 to EP2

Well there's apparently going to be an announcement on the 11th of this month when Gabe collects his award so there might yet be hope yet for ep3.

Sush you, I want ep 3 now! :p

HL1 - 20-25 hours of gameplay

6 years pass.

HL2 - 15-20 hours of gameplay.

We are told sequels in episodic format would bring "More shorter games more often".

2 Years pass.

Episode 1 - 5-6 Hours of gameplay

1.5 Years pass.

Episode 2 - 5-6 Hours of gameplay.

2.5 Years pass

Nothing, no news, release estimate 2011.

So in the 6 years between HL and HL2, they made a game that had 20 hours of game play in it.

In the past 6 years since HL2 came out, they have made 2 games containing in total about half that, with no more estimated for more for over a year, so in 7 years they have provided 10 hours of gameplay.

Honestly I think that is rather pathetic, HL is their most successful and popular franchise, has MASSIVE fan base and yet they have practically ignored it. I think I have every right to be a bit miffed with them.

I think the opposite they could have taken the activision/ubisoft route and released the game every years as a generic but very profitable franchise.

But instead they decided to do what they've always done and work on it till it's just right.

That is the reason HL is such a popular franchise rather than another generic scifi shooter.
