**Official Portal 2 thread**

On TC15 now. I'm going to give it a rest until this evening. Enjoying it immensely so far though.

EDIT: What, there are nine or more chapters? I'm only on chapter three. Good to know there's a fair way to go.

Just finished Chamber 18, starting to get more difficult now, that was a fun one. I'm not interested in seeing how quickly I can complete it like some of the people here. I've been waiting ages for this, I like to take my time in each of the chambers.

took me about 9 hours and i haven't even started on the co-op yet.

That's good news, I've only been playing a couple of hours.

guys, if you can don't use tutorials, walkthroughs. It will just click eventually i promise. It is so much more gratifiying knowing you passed a chamber on your own.

There's no way I'm going to use a tutorial or walkthrough. Didn't on the first game or the advanced chambers, and I won't on this. Patience is the key to getting the harder ones.

Wow, just took an hour to work out TC19. This may take longer than I thought.

Liking it so far and don't want to open a can of worms; though am I just being paranoid now or does it have an overall blocky, console resolution, look? I thought the same about Crysis 2 although maybe as, I said I am just freaking out. :D

Not at all, it looks great. Blocky? No, we have AA. Some of the textures are nice too.

I am hopelessly stuck in test chamber 19. I have got the laser directed onto the first thing you have to light up and have the second cube for redirecting. But I dunno what to do now.

If someone could trust me the answer or something I'd appreciate it. Cant really go into spoiler thread without reading stuff I dont wanna know yet.

I spent an hour on TC19.

I won't give away how to do it though, or any clues. You will work it out. Working out how to do that chamber was one my best Portal experiences.

Walk around, look around, try different things out. If necessary, spend some time just to stand and think about different options and possibilities.

I thought i read somewhere portal 2 was a greater improvement on the first?.

It is an immensely good game. Great script, great acting, great graphics, great atmosphere and lots and LOTS of puzzles. Not only in the chambers but working out how to travel between the chambers too. I don't know what people were expecting, it's a stunning game on every level.

I love the Source engine. Every Valve game plays as smooth as silk. A lot of the time if I play something else and come back to a Source game I'm reminded of the quality. It always looks and plays amazingly.

The guy who said this game is dumbed down compared to the first sounds like a hipster saying it for the sake of it. This game was much harder than the first, especially the coop. Nearly finished that though.

I know, it's complete and utter rubbish. I'm ten hours into the game now and just at the start of Chapter 8. I've had a LOT of fun so far, no cheating at all, and I like to take my time wandering round and exploring things. It's ingenious and amazingly well thought-out. Video game art. It's cleverer, varied and harder than the first.

Plus the 'old' elements were a complete stroke of genius.

Test chamber 19 alone took me one hour. When it clicked it was amazing, great moment.

A lot of people seem to want to rush through it and boast that it took them no time at all. For me it's all about taking time with it, savouring the game. There's so much to appreciate.

7 hours to complete Portal??? How?

I'm not sure if you're trolling me or not. :p

I actually feel sorry for anyone who's taken under eight hours to finish the whole game. There's just so much to appreciate, they must have sprinted through the whole thing. It's like being given the freshest seafood platter in the Mediterranean and scoffing it in five minutes with a cup of Typhoo.

And i dont know how anyone can do this game in around 6 hours or less on first play without cheating, rushing like mad, or googling how to do areas. Dont care what they say, they're a lier and it's just for there e-peen, when in reality they just look like a stupid immature kid to everyone else.

Unless you are a Portal expert, I just don't see how it would be possible. I've played through the advanced chambers on Portal 1 twice and loads of third party maps and still six hours in I was roundabout chapter 6.

I completely support MR.B in this.

Some people must have been playing a different game to me. Six hours is complete rubbish. If people are going by the Steam timer then we already know it's glitched.

Rock Paper Shotgun says it was taking their staff members at least seven hours, with Valve employees finishing it in six. Are the people here better than Valve employees?

Having spent yesterday morning replaying the game, knowing all the solutions, I was certainly nowhere near finished in four hours. And the rest of us on RPS have found it’s taking at least seven hours. And then we started hearing about some even more incredible finishing times for Portal 2, based on Steam’s in-built timer. We’ve some news for you: the timer doesn’t work.

People’s desperation to finish games quickly has always bemused me. It’s like spending £20 on a Blu-Ray movie and then watching it on fast-forward, and boasting to your friends it only took you 45 minutes to watch Avatar. (Well, that’s not a good example, but you understand the point.) When spending £30-£50 on a game, surely you’d want to take your time, get the most out of it? Take the “1000G” approach (to speak in the parlance of our console cousins).

But here we have people saying they explored as much as they could, listened to everything, and yet clocked in times under five hours. With a Valve insider telling me it takes them around six hours to finish the game, something is surely up.

Lol... frustrated much? Took me 5 hours without cheating on first play through and I didn't "rush like mad". The only person who looks like a stupid immature kid is you for that pathetic, envy ridden outburst.

Five hours. Yes, OK. We already know the timer isn't working. I think MR B was just using his head rather than a glitchy timer. It's impossible to finish the game in that time.

Just completed it, took 14 hours apparently. But no cheating!

Will be looking for some co-op over the next few days.

Do you need a mic to do the coop?

Can you type messages in game?

How do you buddy up anyway? Is there a lobby with people waiting to play?

You both have to be on each others' friends list. From what I gather mics aren't essential but they are a GREAT help. If you want to go coop with me, that would be good. Seeing as I like Opeth as well.
