**Official Portal 2 thread**

Well that was ermmm fun?

Probably one of the best and most enjoyable games I've played period, best game I've played in quite a while.

A fair price is probably around £25 and under.

They only charge £30 becuase of supply and demand.

i would have bought the game already, but again £30 is a little steep.

You could have got it in a two-pack for less than £25, and I know a place you can buy the retail copy for the same still (competitor).

That said... The production costs of a game don't have to relate to the time a person spends on it. The costs relate to the effort put into the game, and quite clearly Valve haven't skimped on effort at all.

It amazes me that people are putting the amount of time a game can offer over the enjoyment it will bring them. Are they really dismissing all of the comments of "it's amazing" because of it's length?

Its nowhere near as clear cut as this.

You cant just repeat the same old mantra of 'quality over quantity'.

There has to be a fair amount of quantity to give the quality any meaning in the first place.

As with Portal 2, It seems the only achilles heel it has is that fact, that make it too big and it starts to get a little stale, due to the nature of the game, which is why they have made it slightly shorted than a regular sp game, but tried to cram as much quality in there.

Which is great! I havent played the game yet, but I really want to, and im sure its fantastic.

However to charge full price for a short game, is a little bit naughty.

When you eventually get around to buying/playing the game, let us know if you reconsider this stance & feel that in hindsight £30 wasn't/wouldn't have been so naughty after all ;)

I can't belive people are complaining about this game it is one of the most polished and well thought out games well since portal. It's short but is deffinately quality over quantity.

Finished the single player after around 8 hours. Very much enjoyed it all!

Was most smug that I didn't have to read a walk through for any of the puzzles, though I definitely had a few with me standing there going "eeeerrrrmmmm?!". Want to play through again now with the audio commentary.

Well. The last 5 games I bought (around £30 each) I never finished as I lost interest. Doubt I spent more than 2 hours on each. If Portal 2 is anything like the first one, it'll be 30 bucks well spent.

If you buy it you get ALL the 'content' SP and co-op, there is no DLC as such only a few decorative items that you can put on the co-op characters

For all the people complaining, do you know how long it takes to create a game?

I myself have tried to build a level, and it took myself nearly a month to build 1 part of a map. This was using hammer. I had to build my own world then inside the world was my map, then creating ideas of what you want inside the map/level, adding triggers/scripted sequences, lightning props, moveable props/ sounds. The map i created within a month took 5-10 mins to finish. Now try creating a game that takes 5-6 hours to complete!!

I will be a happy gamer if HL3 looks like Portal 2, the soft shadows and excellent lighting make for a superb Half-life ambience!

It certainly feels more polished than the first to me.

Well I have just finished the SP campaign and I have to say that I thought it was awesome fun! Can't wait to try to out the co-op!

To play the co-op in this game, do you have to have bought a two pack version?

The co-op is a different part of the game?

No, you not need to have bought a two pack. That was just so you could play with a friend on release day I assume, and save yourselves some money.

The two pack version isn't special or anything.

I thought i read somewhere portal 2 was a greater improvement on the first?.

It is an immensely good game. Great script, great acting, great graphics, great atmosphere and lots and LOTS of puzzles. Not only in the chambers but working out how to travel between the chambers too. I don't know what people were expecting, it's a stunning game on every level.

Exactly. I might have completed it myself in 7-8 hours but those were 7-8 of being glued to the thing. The only other games that have been enjoyable to keep me at it for that length of time have been portal 1, the gta games and i think before that.. cannon fodder

Poor Jules :(

Think i finished it in roughly 7 hours looking at my achievement times. I started about 8:10am ish, got kicked off at 2pm so my gf could go on Skype (for over an hour!!!) then back on and finished it off.

GLEEEEEE!!!! I solved it! :D

Cant believe how obvious the solution was all that time.

Lol, reminds me of Portal Pro. 1 chamber in particular i knew was really easy and i was so utterly oblivious to the solution. Wound up looking on youtube and i just had to /facepalm it was that obvious...

As said, you could pick it up for £24 in a 2 pack or £27 now. And as order also said, they have put a huge amount of effort into the 6-10 hours you play.

Think I'll have to go through again with developer commentary on. Its always interesting to hear how they did things and just how much effort they put into making every section just right.

I'm not even finished yet and I already feel that I've got my monies worth. Its a definite improvement on the first game.

Stuck again though. If anyone could throw a hint my way I'd appreciate it. I posted my problem in the spoiler thread.
