**Official Portal 2 thread**

It has done almost 4 bars in 4 hours.

Probably 58 bars remaining.

This rate will speed up later tonight.

[EDIT] http://www.coughlandesign.com/portal/ This link now contains a projected release date and time in UTC+1 which I think is the same as GMT so it's easier for idiots like me to understand.

[EDIT] There are now multiple timezones so it has GMT in there.

I'll buy one cuz im bored.

Which one's worth buying please guys?

Also, is just the fact of playing going to help the counter?

Edit - I've also got a free gift copy of portal if anyone wants

I'd say go for defense grid, brilliant little game for the money. Tower Defense game.

I just tried to play Defence Grid and I get the message "This game is currently unavailable please try again later".

Why are Valve stopping me playing my bought games ?

Can someone explain to me what the heck is going? :P

Valve is making a lot of people play Indie games :p

Nothing has been confirmed about the potatoes alteringtimers, although if you're playing the games why not get them anyway?

Here's a third-party countdown timer - no idea on accuracy but gives a rough idea on the unlock.

It's not a marketing scam

It's just marketing, the game isn't going to be delayed any because no one buys games, they've just created a fun way to unlock the game early while generating support for some indie games at the same time.

If they are prepared to release it early then they should. Not try and make people play and buy other games in the hope it might be released early.

Scam is deffinatley what it is.

It's not a scam, they're not forcing anyone to buy games and a fair few people probably own one already.

Doesn't scamming normally imply they are tricking us or deceiving us?

Valve has organised a mass ARG involving thousands of thier fans and customers. FREE content for existing games has been developed and they clearly put in a lot of effort.

I guess skaters gon' skate.

Also £23.99 for a game such as this on release is a fantastic price.

(1) If you play ANY of the 13 indie games featured in the Potato Sack, you are contributing to the Portal 2 unlock. Do not rush to buy all the games unless your goal is to play and/or share them.

(1a) The number of potatoes one has on his/her account affects the CPU multiplier rate for each game contribution. More potatoes make any given CPU more powerful.

(2) The progress indicators on each individual game display the RATE at which each game is contributing to the "Computations Completed for Launch" progress indicator.

(2a) The rate indicators will increase or decrease depending on the amount of players currently in each game.

(2b) The Computations indicator will only increase as the indie games are played. When the bar is full, Portal 2 will presumably unlock.

(3) You can leave the game idle and still contribute. If your Steam profile acknowledges you are playing the game, then you are contributing. Running multiple instances of the game will NOT help unless you have multiple Steam accounts, and each account must run an instance of the game.

Ah right so the red bars are like cores on the CPU :D Less popular games will give more processing power per a user. That's neat :D

If that is the case stop playing Killing Floor and go play a less popular game if you have it!

No doubt it's just you valve are targeting and not the fact that there are 1000's of users all bombarding the steam servers at once.

Relax and try again I'm sure you'll get in...

Edit: had absolutely no problem loading defense grid. Maybe it is a personal attack on you from Valve! :p

It's a common error, try restarting steam or something but you're acting like they're stopping you on purpose.
