**Official Portal 2 thread**

Finished both the single player and the coop campaign now.

Both were absolutely fabulous, the fun of playing in coop was excellent, i highly recommend people do it.

As for the single player the dialogue was amazing throughout and the puzzles for both single player and coop i thought were excellent.

All in all everyone should get this!

I'm too tired to be able to think properly and finish this, will finish it off tomorrow evening.

Loving it so far. I'm nearly at the end.

Just had probably the best 2 hours gaming in my life playing co-op with gimpymoo, was nice to talk to you and look forward to finishing the rest of the co-op with you.

What's everyone's opinion on this then? I loved the 1st Portal but I don't want to watch/read reviews to spoil it for myself. I know this is a PC sub-forum but has anyone got it on the PS3 here? Planning to get it on that, then I get a free copy on Steam.

Also, if anyone has the 1st Left 4 Dead that they could spare i'd happily take it. :)

There was a TC right before the end of chapter 8 that had me properly stumped, the one with 3 turrets guarding a button. I put it down for a few hours and came back, still had no idea.. when i figured it out i was like aaaah i didnt realise that would work.

Theres definatley more focus on the story in this one, the first was mostly just completing the tests with the occasional room where you were given subtle hints to the story. In this one theres a lot more time out of the tests themselves as your wandering around and progressing the story, It does feel heavily scripted but i dont think it ruins it

Overall im happy, id have also liked to see the speed runs/challenges from the first make a return as they do add a decent amount of replay value, some people are complaining about it being £30 but there are a lot of games i bought for more than £30 that just couldnt keep my interest or be half as entertaining

OK, I must be going nuts here.
This is a game (a good one, granted) that's full-price, can be finished in about 7 to 8 hours and has no replay value whatsoever because after one playthrough you've seen it all?
Come on, this is taking the mick! It should have been released at reduced price for that. Looks to me that some people have been kicking themselves for practically giving Portal 1 away for free and are now making up for that.

I'm under four hours in and I've more than got my monies worth of enjoyment.

Why would I want to have a drawn out, dull campaign like most games released today? So far for me this game has literally been packed to the brim with humour, attention to detail, amazing puzzles and gameplay.

Quality > Quantity. And this is the perfect example of it imo.

Do the people who keep saying this believe that the 15-20 hour games of the past were crap? (Trying to ignore RPGs ans strategy games which last even longer...)

Or that 3.5 years is only enough time to develop 6 hours of gameplay?

Quality > Quantity

Exactly.

Yes. The last game I was this immersed in and found I enjoyed as much was exactly the same: HL2: EP2. Very short but so incredibly polished.

Portal 2, and Valve, are the masters of the quality over quantity argument. I don't care that I've already finished co-op and nearly finished single player in just over a day since release because quite honestly no other game releases in years (again since EP2) have made me feel this satisfied.

Also I think it is as long as it realisitcally can be. Its a puzzler (with an increased adventure element this time) and short of making incredibly lengthy, stressful near impossible puzzles there is not a lot of scope for adding more without the game feeling repetitive. Thus in terms of qunatity I will say Valve have hit the nail on the head.

It's short is it? Good.

I get bored of Single Player games pretty quickly and Portal 1 is one of the few that I have completed so far. If Portal 2 is too much longer then I won't complete it. The amount of modern games that are drawn out and that get stale fast is depressing.

I have enjoyed what I've played so far and if you haven't then it sucks to be you.

Was that 6 hours of gameplay done extremely well or not? I got lost a couple of times in the 'in between' sections but for the most part I knew where to go. The dialogue from and between Wheatley and GlaDOS was awesome, Cave Johnson was funny too. The whole area looked fantastic, especially the overgrown chambers near the start.
What exactly would people have done for another 5 hours? Thrown in another 50 test chambers? You would have seriously dragged the game out and as Link said, people would've lost interest.

Yes you can release games that are 15 hours long that can still be excellent and not get boring (Half Life 2 anyone?). Doesn't mean every game can be made to be that long. No way in hell could Portal SP last a great deal longer without dragging it out.

Well I managed to finish SP last night & enjoyed it thoroughly. Was I annoyed at the game being short? Hell no, the story & game play were smooth, intriguing & fun. I'd have been annoyed if it seemed rushed or it had been dragged out needlessly just to appease those that need a game to last X number of hours.

Am I annoyed that I have completed SP in the space of 6-7hours & only have co-op left? Again no, I just had to sit there & finish the game! It's nice to have a game pull you in & keep you thoroughly entertained. I know some will hark on about the lack of replay value but personally I don't see this as such an issue. In about 6months I'll likely play the SP again to see what I've forgot. If they do any DLC for co-op that would be fab but either way I am completely happy with the game, game play & the over all cost.

As many have said ... quality over quantity.
If they ever decide to do a Portal 3 I would buy it without hesitation, but then again I'm not a fusspot like some :p.

Played some more co-op with a friend last night. Only completed sections 1 and 2 though. Not started 3 or 4. Not sure if there is a 5, or if Valve will add more in due course?

Really good fun, not overly annoying, but definitely worth having voice comms for it. You can have a great laugh whilst playing it, we were on a roll by the end :D

And as for people complaining it was too short, what would they have done for another 4 hours? More and more chambers? :p They are fun yes, but there is only so much you can do. I think we all tend to over-hype games, especially on these forums. Next time, lower your expectations, and maybe you won't be so disappointed. Or, realise there is such a a thing as quality over quantity. If the game had been 20 hours and crap, you would still be complaining. Some of you just need to grow up I think.

Looks like the trolling 'zomg day one DLC that is completely cosmetic, valve sux rated 0' comments on Metacritic have been overwhelmed slightly now.

94/95/95 official and 6.7/6.5/7.2 on Xbox/PS3/PC (respectively), down slightly from 96 and up from around 4.3.
