!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

Low res textures of tiny objects i can handle, its the textures of the walls and surroundings im worried about :(

Something is broken for sure, HQ textures are their, they just aint showing up for a lot of people, give them some time to sort it out, and im sure by OUR release date it will be sorted (hopefully anyway)

Well I've spent two hours in total with it and I would say it has potential, the atmosphere is great, I like the post apocalyptic industrial-transitioning-cyber-punk setting.

The game mechanics feel solid enough, load times are excellent and combat seems varied at this point. I really like the pistol especially if *SPOILER* you buy yourself half a binocular.

However the game clearly has flaws that shouldn't be there, even after trying three different drivers I still get odd texture loading issues and definitely some misplaced/incorrect textures. For example at a distance most things look fantastic, really rich and detailed, very nicely shaded and lit... but get within a few paces and the texture quality really seems to suffer on many items, but not all?

I've also experienced two crashes during loading screens/transitions which is annoying hence I'd suggest if you do play hit F5 to quick save before moving on!

Oh and here's an amusing secret area I found: http://tinypic.com/r/2ynm1k6/7 - obviously don't click the link if you don't want to see it!

Aside from the style I've yet to see anything particularly stand-out.

Aimed at no one in particular:

People cry console port because it allows them to jump on a bandwagon and instantly connect with hundreds of other gamers who recognise the term and all the stigma associated with it but they know little of the history and meaning behind it.

"Console Port" – Some of the signs:

o Terrible performance across a wide variety of decent hardware configurations. This includes PCs of a similar spec to the console it was created for and high end PCs that should have no problems running the game.

o No custom controls / ability to redefine keys.

o Obscure key mappings that deviate from the usual setup adopted by most games of that genre.

o Limited / no mouse support.

o Sloppy adaptation to PC control scheme. For example "Press X on the controller to activate" instead of "Press E on the keyboard to activate".

o Little or no effort to take advantage of PC hardware to improve texture resolution or character models (only a few examples of many).

o Bugs / Issues - Little or no post-release support / patches etc.

o It is known for the port to arrive on PC sometime after the original console release. There are exceptions however.

Rage has issues, no doubt about it. But is it a sloppy console port? Time will tell. But I highly doubt it based on what I have seen and read.

Thank you for that :) Unfortunately a lot of games seem to have some textures that are lower res than others, almost as if they had been created a while ago during development and weren’t spruced up for release...

But if that's as bad as it gets I can live with that :)

Canceld my pre-order, might grab it in the sales. Think il just get some fallout:NV dlc and mods for my post apoc gameplay fix :)

Pre-orded Arkhem City though, really dont think that will be a let down

wow doom 3 looks amazing given its age when compared to rage

Its because it is a console port.

Yeah they do, every game in fact, but something doesn't feel right here unless of course the footage and images the id PR dept' let out weren't exactly honest.

However the game feels like it'll be solid, not amazing, not ground breaking as hyped, but solid. :)

It's retarded people (looking at Ravens screenshot page 26) actually believe this is what the game is meant to be looking like?

It's clearly a bug get over it.

Those that are playing it now, you are using a VPN? What are the draw backs to that? Is it bannable? What if you used it to play Rage now and then signed in to Steam without it later and you are showing back in the UK? :o

The reviews appear to be for the console versions. Which considering Neil79's post about Carmac admitting they prioritised the consoles above PC (and considering that is where the sales are it's understandable) I'd expect them to get decent scores. The experience that Alec Meer is having at RPS would suggest another buggy mess dumped on the Americans to cobble together workarounds and hound out graphics drivers before the EU gets it's around 30% more expensive release.

These early PC user reviews are not v promising, driver related or not.

Just watched the IGN review video - still looks pretty damned good.

Not sure to cancel pre-order or not...

I can't believe what I'm reading! It's like a conspiracy lol. Entertaining for sure but a bit on the negative "it's going to suck" side...

Looking forward to reading some PC reviews.

I used a VPN on Steam with Dead Island and haven't had any problems whatsoever.
