Official Rampage Extreme Review/Overclock/Guide Thread

Hi ya Guys,

Im just finalising my system build today and would just like to check if anyone did use the G. Skill ram in there system?.

My system specs are to be
Asus Rampage Extreme Intel X48 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 3.0GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor
G.Skill 4GB DDR3 PI PC2-12800C7 1600MHz (2x2GB) CAS7 Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL7D-4GBPI)
2 x HIS ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2048MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) (In CrossfireX)
Thermaltake ToughPower 1200W Modular Power Supply

From what i have heard the G.skill should be find but would feel happier knowing from someone first hand.

Kind Regards

Matthew

Hi Matutu & welcome to the forum:) Smirnoff has Geil Evo 1600, (see post 1, 25 & 36) He did post the sticks may be faulty. He may have the new set by now. Hopefully he will post an update shortly. Nice set up by the way, looking forward to reading your updates, results.

Thats a nice build although I do feel your paying some big £'s for not much gain in performance over a lower spec budget

Well its abit easier for me as my company gives a allowance and just so happens this fits in :), plus im sure in a few months once AMD has refined its a CrossfireX Drivers it will be awesome in Crysis etc. Until then ill just sit back and drawl at the 3dMark Scores :D

:)just had a bit of a problemn with 404 bios as you know there is quite a bit of vdroop when you get up around 1.7v so i enabled loadline the supposed vdroop compensation when i booted up was fine at 5.2 with 1.72 v so i decided to run prime the v stayed rock steady but temps went crazy took it from -46 to cut off set at -20 so i did some checking with scope and wattmeter and it had took the cpu up to over 350 watts disabled loadline and now fine if any body else can try would appreciate in case i have bad m/b thanks

thanks 4 reply allready tried on other bios chip have found prob was softwre related at same time as adjusted loadline i had put another 2 sticks of ram in and swapped drives to xp64 and prime just does not like xp64 i tried wprime 32 and temp never budged also fine in prime with loadline disabled but not with enabled

Just ordered this board, and a TRUE - however, the moutning bracket and that capacitor are worrying me. Is it going to be OK to use the backing plate anyway, as I thought it was quite 'hollow' in the centre?

You can buy a bracket for the back cpu with a hole cut out or you can do it yourself.

As clone recommends or the alternative is to obtain a xigmatek crossbow backplate

Well, got the mobo and everything installed, just going through driver installation. I tried installing the Intel drivers from the mobo CD and when i rebooted, I got a screen about creating a disk as there was corruption on the intel drive or something.

So, I reinstalled vista and won't be attempting to re-install that driver! Flashed to Bios 0404. This is SO much better than the P5E3 mobo I had!!!

Glad to see you like it, I think its the best mobo i've ever had lol. The latest drivers from the intel site gave me zero problems, Just throw the asus cd in the bin :)

Smirnoff, just taking my Heatsink off the Mobo now to check for ASUS sucky thermpaste application, did you also put thermal paste on the very small chips?

Mines running great so far not had a chance to clock on it yet as im back on air cooling for now as ive sold my bench table.
