***Official Reading 2009 Thread***

I thought AM were brilliant and people just didn't know any of the new songs so couldn't really get into it.

That's why they a bit of a let down - I understand why bands want to play new material but AM only played two off of WPSIAMTWIN that I can remember. A lot of the big, well known, tunes were noticeably absent.

Yeah but everyone I spoke to who know the new songs thought they were brilliant too. Just because they didn't crowd please (with their song choice) doesn't mean they didn't turn up performance wise.

POO GIRL!!!

Epic weekend. I was at Leeds in yellow camp for the 3rd year running and it was best yet as I just went off and watched what I wanted to see on my own.

Highlights?

Prodigy
Kings of Leon (They closed the festival perfectly imo, I'm not a massive fan but that set was FULL to the brim of emotion and the crowd as the biggest I have ever seen.)
New Found Glory

I enjoyed RH, and their set was top notch, but then to come home and see that they played Street Spirit (my fave song) and Karma Police at Reading is a bit of a kick in the balls. They arsed Idioteque up as well, but they played (Nice Dream) which was fantasic.

Oh, and the Arctics were brilliant, but come on Alex Turner, Thom Yorke was livelier in between songs.

I only went to Leeds for the Saturday but it was mint. Saw a fair few bands actually, some unintentional ones too:

3OH3 - crap music, but not too bad live
Chipmunk never turned up which I was a bit gutted about
MixHell - crap, was really looking forward to these but they were awful (yes he played drums but wasn't anything spectacular)
Brand New - Saw these while chatting to my mates on the main stage, each song sounded the same to me (not my style of music anymore though lol)
The Qemists - First couple of songs were sketchy, last half were really good. A surprise as they've been described as Pendulum-esque, which can never really be a good thing imo...
Lady Sovereign - Disgusting, but brilliant! Had some sort of power failure but she handled it well, big surprise for me.
Chase & Status - Incredible, better than when I saw them in Gateshead, maniacs in the crowd as per, dropped so many immense tunes it was unreal.
The Living Daylights - My mates band who headlined the BBC Introducing stage. Only caught their final song though unfortunately :( And the MC bloke wouldn't let them do an encore, despite everyone in the audience shouting for one. The short bit I saw though was really good, good to see some old faces from Lincoln in the crowd too - was a bit like going back in time a few years to Friday nights at The Bivouac in Lincoln there were all the same faces there :)
MSTRKRFT - First bit was OK, then they dropped their JUSTICE remix and a Daft Punk remix, and from then on it was really good. Ended with Queens Bohemian Rhapsody which was brilliant (bit of a cliché but still good)
Vitalic - INSANELY GOOD! Soooo loud, easy the loudest of the day. We were stood at the very back of the dance tent and the bass was bone shakingly good. Loved the Mirrored-LED-type screens behind him. Highlight of the day for me, as he was as good as Deadmau5 and C&S but managed to hold my attention and had me smiling all the way through his set, without knowing any of his tunes.
Deadmau5 - The reason I went, and he was fantastic. The tent was rammed, and we were sat on the fence at the very back so had a perfect view of everything. He was top notch, couldn't fault him at all. Only downside was a guy came behind our fence and then stood on it and started dancing, pushing the fence forward which made some marshal guy come and tell us all to get off the fence, bad crack. I'm definitely going to go see the mau5 again, sure I saw a poster of him doing a tour later this year? Oh, and he got Rick Rolled to finish the night off -fantastic lol.

Overall, top day out. Was too tired to stay for C&S' second DJ set though so left after the mau5. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it as I've never been to a gig sober before (that sounds bad lol) but it was fantastic.

The stories going around suggest she had £400 in there. I saw the poor girl with her legs flailing in the air, but didn't stick around....I just pegged it back to my tent and told everyone around us, who didn't beleive a word I said until the fire engine came through yellow and the guy on the crows next started telling the crwod that formed to "**** off" pretty much making it worse as more came.

Faith No More were amazing at Reading on Friday :)

Yeah, probably my highlight of the weekend band-wise, and to think the tent was shockingly empty, barely even half full...who the chuff goes to see KOL instead of FNM...oh yea, thats right, all the "fashion statements" that make up 80% of reading who only go to see the bands that Radio 1 push so they can look cool to their friends, sad.

Whoops, didnt mean to rant, still ...a good weekend - was disappointed by Deadmau5 to be honest, Tim Minchin was great, Crystal Castles & Crystal Method were good, Patrick Wolf, Prodigy, Bloc Party good, errrr...Radiohead were pretty good as well, obviously. :)

Yeah Patrick Wolf was great, so were Them Crooked Vultures, I'm not a massive fan of Radiohead in a festival environment, prefer them when i've seen them at smaller venues to be honest, like the small-ish tour they did in 2006.

Them crooked vultures, Saturday, Reading, oh my god......

They were absolutely superb! Eagles of Death Metal, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, White Denim, Friendly Fires, Soulsavers, Radiohead and Prodigy were excellent also, Kings of Leon have gone done massively in my estimation however, what a bunch of a whiney ****s.

Shocking isnt it... almost enough to make you ashamed of being a Brit.
Still dont understand why the BBC missed off epic.. though thinking about it that song got a fair bit of airtime over the Download weekend.

I was meaning to go over and see FNM but I was enjoying Marmaduke Duke so much we stayed there :)

What made that a little more annoying was the fact that the tent was rammed for Jamie T and totally emptied before FNM!

JAMIE T.

:(

(I endured the Jamie T gig in order to make sure I got a decent spot for FNM and it turned out I didn't need to, lol)
