***Official Rift Planes of Telara Thread***

Been following this thread for a bit and must admit I do like the look of it.

How easy is it to picked for a ex wow player like myself?

Ultra-super-duper-easy. Same keybinds, same chat commands, very similar game mechanics. Trion haven't tried to re-invent anything. Having said that, the game is different enough for jaded WoW players to not get insta-jaded with Rift.

Well i appear to have found the fault for the slowdowns during rift raids, the full screen FX which enables bloom etc is the culprit i think.

With this disabled my frames never go below 53-50 fps compared to 30 with full screen FX on when playing Rift raids.

And tbh i dont think the game looks much different with it on or off.

Ended up cancelling my sub on this - Just not my cup of tea I guess.

I can't begrudge it my free month - I've had a reasonable amount of time out of it but ultimately the only fun is from the rift system and souls (And a few cool dungeons). For quests, combat , monsters and most of the environment (With some notable exceptions) its as generic as they come.

I imagine if you're into the PvP side you'd enjoy it a hell of a lot more but as a PvE player theres little to keep me interested.

I will say though its pretty well made - Good fps on a stable engine and the devs seem comitted. I hope it does ok even if it doesnt suit me.

Very useful, gonna try it, thanks :)

I'd be quite interested to know which WoW flaws are fixed and what aspecs are good about the game...

Not trying to be a troll or anything, but!...Im quite interested in buying it but still unsure as i've been let down by most of the recent MMO's, so just trying to get as much info as i can really..

I do like and do play WoW as i find its one of the most polished MMO's (for me at least) but i do like some of the aspects from other MMO's...

Be interesting to see your opinions! :)

No problem.

Community on my RP server is 10x better (I'm in good Guild which helps)
It is as polished as WoW is now even though it has just been released(far better then WoW was when that was first released, so who knows how much better this will get)
Crafting is not a money/time sink, nodes for ore etc. are quite common and the respawn time is great, making it not to easy or too hard to level your chosen trades. This adds a lot to the game in my opinion.
Random RIFTS ie events, are happening all the time.
The sheer amount of avatar customization, as regards roles and what not is fabulous, and basically poos all over WoW. In fact they might be bringing out a soul which specializes in dancing, so you could have a void knight, paladin char who is also a great dancer ! lol
The collections of artifacts reminds me of EQ2, you see a little shiny thing in the ground collect it, add it to a collection(there are tons) and get tokens for handing in your collections which you can use to buy companions or even increase your run speed by 110%!

That is of the top of my head, it has got two things missing I suppose, that's the LFG option or the dungeon finder, but on reflection I'm not sure this game needs it.

Tons more, if you like WoW, this is defo worth a blast, in fact if you like any mmorpg i think.

So many interesting things to do, and its a joy doing them sums this game up for me so far.

I'm a pvper and I pretty much agree, it is a well put together game, well thoughtout, but it is just completely lacking in any sort of original feature that I cannot find anywhere else, couple that with very imbalanced 'pvp' and the complete lack of any sort of world pvp objective and it is just not worth subbing for, there are deeper games out there.

PvP wise, which game is that? Would honestly be interested to know as I have looked but not found anything.

Guys you need to bare in mind that this game is less than a month old! At release WoW had no world pvp objectives, only a few dungeons, no world bosses ect. In fact, it was an incredibly boring game at the start which people mocked for being a rehashed version of Everquest 2.

Now people are saying that about Rift copying WoW. You just need to be patient and more features will come in time. Also - No game will ever be 100% balanced in pvp. If the game is balanced for pvp then the pve side is lacking and vice versa. Tiron tried to remedy this slightly by having pvp specific souls, however the part they failed on was not making the pvp souls mandatory for pvp at level 50.

I am still thoroughly enjoying the game although what I will do at 50 remains to be seen. If I lose interest in it due to it being new and lacking things to do, then I will take some time away and come back to it a few months down the line.

Darkfall Online/Mortal Online/EVE

Talking in terms of games like Rift, a game like AoC/WAR is offering much better pvp, think of the rest of the game what you will. Aion offered better pvp.

Comnig up GW2 is obviously going to be big.

Not sure about Darkfall/Mortal or Eve but Aoc, war and Aion pvp was no better imo.

The games got parts to improve upon but a great launch and solid start, takes the basic mmo and polishes it up with some nice features. Nothing revoloutionary but a great, solid product. Nice change from WoW which by then end, despite a great guild, I was so bored I could barely summon the will to log in.

I guess it depends what you want from PvP. For me, PvP is not just seeing some random scrub out questing and ganking him, it is fighting over large scale objectives as part of a force, all the games I listed above offer a devent 'RvR' experience. I'm a little tired of the 'it has battlegrounds and random world gankings the pvp is fine' line that keeps getting peddled, I just pity the people that genuinely believe that...
