***Official Rift Planes of Telara Thread***

Well, I lost the fight with myself yesterday and ended up buying it. I only got time for about 90 mins with it yesterday, but first impressions are really really good.

Yep, practically every feature is ripped from other games, but they're put together really well, and the art direction and 'feel' of it is just brilliant.

I'm not max level yet (38 only) but I do enjoy going 'off the beaten track' and just spending a while exploring the scenery of a region, picking up artifacts along the way. It's a pretty elegant system since those artifact sets reward you with lucky coins on handing in, which are the currency needed to acquire cosmetic pets and other quirky items. The artifacts also sell pretty well on the auction house so finding the same ones you already have can be a nice source of income as well.

Thanks for telling me they sell well. I've been binning the copy's...

This game is amazing, so much to do the possibilities are endless! It's better then I could've ever expected.

EVERY flaw with WoW is fixed, as far as I can see, and every positive is here! It does take bits from other GOOD mmo but does it better then them in most cases(EQ2 crafting and housing is better, no housing here, yet).

Guildwars 2 will have to be stunning to get my attention, this is that good imo.

I'll go into more detail when I get 10mins :)

When im doing rift raids and theres like 20+ people on screen my frames plummet to 40fps and the game becomes very jerky

Is there anything i can do or is this simply lag of the game when lots of other players are on the screen at the same time?

Here are my video settings:

I really cannot see how you can tell it's at 40FPS compared to whatever it is normally at, personally I run it with everything maxed and the blur filter and I'm very happy with the ~25 I get when it's all hectic.

Edit: Do EVERYTHING they list here: http://www.brileykenney.com/blog/?p=482 Boosted my FPS by about 20.

Because when the games slows up during Rift raids i can quite clearly see the frames plummet when clicking on the icon on the left bottom of the screen that tells you your FPS and net info?.

When the game is running at 60FPS the game is super smooth its only when it runs at 40 and below that the games gets very jerky.

Thanks for the performance tips but surely with a GTX 580 and a i5 2500k i shouldnt have use any performance tips?

I'm really enjoying this game. I made a Riftblade Warrior (No, not because of it's sheer overpowered-ness) and I am currently level 34. Taking it easy and leveling casually while doing some PVP.

World PVP is really nice. Reminds me of how Classic WoW was - Which I loved. I like that this game is even harder than Classic WoW and I love that too. Too many things are too easy these days. *Cough* Cataclysm *cough*.

I'm currently trying out sabo to see what all the fuss was about and to be honest I dont get all the whining. Yeah its great if you are playing against a pack of morons who dont realise who is attacking them then yeah you can cause insane damage. But as sabo you die soooo fast, I need either a dedicated healer or a silly team to get a decent round. Its fun though :D

You even bothered to open the link? It has things like how to turn on multicore support.

LOL,yes i have bothered thanks to open the link as soon as you posted actually

The multicore support is for AMD chips according to the article and will prob not work on intel chips.

Ive edited the the cfg file with the changed values and will see what its like when i hit a Rift raid later.

Im not expecting much as i think i answered my own question earlier where when loads of other players are on screen at the same time its simply lag of the connection, as my gameplay when doing solo stuff is maxed out @60fps always.

I only get slowdowns when Rift raids are active.ie when loads of other players are on screen at the same time.

Right ok, so network lag due to the amount of players on screen is making your FPS drop? Or maybe it is just an issue with there being a lot of players on screen dragging down your fps?

Finding this addictive so far but I do like to run with all the settings up and when fighting large invasion event final bosses the FPS goes down to like 15fps on a single 480 so I'm investing in a 2nd and can anyone confirm if the tweaks shown for multi core work on an i7?

I'd be quite interested to know which WoW flaws are fixed and what aspecs are good about the game...

Not trying to be a troll or anything, but!...Im quite interested in buying it but still unsure as i've been let down by most of the recent MMO's, so just trying to get as much info as i can really..

I do like and do play WoW as i find its one of the most polished MMO's (for me at least) but i do like some of the aspects from other MMO's...

Be interesting to see your opinions! :)

I went back to RIFT a few days ago now I've got more 50s in my guild. Enjoying it more I must admit. Waiting for one of my best online gaming buddies to hit 50 he is a healer and I have a sick DPS build and we're going to go around ganking all the time, I can't wait :D We spent weeks in Aion doing it at around level 25-30 :D
