***Official Rift Planes of Telara Thread***

In terms of PvP, Daoc is still the best I have experienced in an MMO. (Old frontiers daoc to be precise). The battles that took place throughout the frontiers in efforts to capture the castles and relics or defend the castles and relics were epic, and some of the fights at the emain milegate were nothing short of sensational.

Problem is you won't ever see that again unless the rewards for taking part in such actions are heavily rewarded. Then again mmo communities these days most of both teams will turn up, stand round and do nothing waiting for rewards. Rewards would have to be participation based and poor to no reward for losing so people actually put some effort in.

I hate mmo communities these days it's now predominantly gear/e-peen>>> fun. I swear you could let a good portion of mmonplayers log in, mail them a cool looking set of purples and a nice title and that would be that. They would stand round in a city for their monthly fee.

Enjoying the game though. Wouldn't say pvp is broken by a long shot but you can tell it is balanced towards bug battles, which is great, but there are no big battles out there  go figure!

It is a bit of a shame that there is such a focus on "what do I get out of it", and not simply accepting that what you get is fun. Does seem there are a large number of people for whom fun is just not enough, they also have to get some leet purple item or rare or title or something.

I agree with this - I don't count random gankings as proper PvP. It takes absolutely zero skill to take a lvl 50 and roll over several dozen noobs. What is challenging & fun is running up against an army of opposition in open play, battling for control of a castle etc. At least Trion have admitted on the official forums they are looking at implementing this type of PvP - it would be a good move on their part I think for retaining a player base.

Sorry but I disagree. I have had some cracking pvp out of warfronts, ranging from roaming around doing rifts and overrunning reds en route to raging battles around the level bosses.

When the level bosses spawn in Scarlet Gorge, everyone swarms to it like flies to honey and we had a superb fight the other night holding off the Guardians trying to take the PX-21 (or whatever it was called) from us.

Loving the game. I've got full R2/R3 PvP set now. About halfway through to R4 now. Someone on my server is already R5 and got their R5 dagger yesterday!

Sorry but a high level can be beaten by a low level. A few guys in our guild around 35-38 have beaten level 40-44 players. I almost got merked by two level 37s at level 50 one was a healer and one was a warrior. It was very close.

I've rolled sabo though as I can get 3 tiers in to my PvP soul, so I have 10% armour pen, 10% damage against players and 10% crit damage increase against players and my sabo I crit for 3500-3600 + 500-600 damage :D

yep pretty much any level 30-40 could beat a level 50 mage in their current state :(

At the time when I attacked the cleric I had full 48 blues and the cleric could out heal the damage I did. I'm not disagreeing with you with the mage thing but I've had a fight against a lot of level 50 mages ( I'm at 6 or 7 pvp items which is around 5.5-6% damage reduction against players ) and most times I get to hit them once before I die :(

I'm a bit stumped that I have to run everything on Medium and still have to move some sliders down and I get 15FPS in WF with the setup I have in my signature. Only thing which is different is the CPU it's at stock now not 4.2.

Typing /follow then comboing a target called on ventrilo with the use of an /assist macro is not 'sensational pvp' in any sense.. And that is all DAOC PvP is.

Ultima Online had far and away the best PvP of any MMO.

I also think UO is the greatest MMO I ever played as a whole, but I would just like to point out that in the 4 years I played Daoc, I didnt once type /follow then combo a target called on Ventrilo with the use of an /assist macro. So maybe its best not to tar everyones Daoc PVP with the same brush. So yes, as I said, some of the fights at the emain milegates that I had were indeed nothing short of sensational.

My dad's bigger than your dad.

You're arguing about 2 very very different, and widely accepted as the best pvp mmorpg's ever. They were both great, in different ways. And if that's how you understood DAoC rvr, you mustn't have given it much of a chance, the group dynamics & even realm groups dynamics were fantastic. Even more so on a true pvp server.

I preferred DAoC, as you can probably tell :)

There seems to be a lack of quests at low levels, unless i'm just missing them.Does it continue through the game?

Some people have leveled to 50 from quests and instances. Before I got bored of questing and started grinding I never had any issues finding quests.

Just a quick thanks to those who ran Iron Tombs with me earlier (mostly guildies). Absolutely cracking gaming. Loving Rift now. Cheers. (Domino in game)
