Anyone else seen this story emerging? Its being pedalled by various British newspapers claiming that an approach has been made by the RFU to bring Sam Burgess back over to England to play for a Union club, potentially Bath.

I find the whole thing utterly astounding.

Others are saying that it is probably just a ploy by the RFU to take the wind out of the sails of SL's opening games of the season. Even more amazing is that the RFU have agreed to pay for the release clause, instead of the club itself.

I for one can't believe that he would move, especially given his location and superstar status over in Australia. He has his brothers and family over there, a beautiful beach, playing in front of tens of thousands for each game. To then swap all that for a dank field in Bath playing in front of a few thousand? Money talks n'all, but it does sound strange.

On the topic of Bradford, they do seem to have a relatively decent squad still. I would be surprised if Carvell did get moved out to FC without playing a game. I think London are nailed on for wooden spoon this year which could be interesting as relegation looms. Not sure who would join them though.

A relatively decent opening game tonight but a deserved win for Huddersfield.

I think Wigan were pretty weak in the forwards tonight, I'm not sure what they lacked but they were outmuscled in the middle which left Brough to do his thing. Maybe half a mind on the WCC, but Wigan didn't seem up for it tonight.

Bowen certainly looked decent tonight though perhaps should have been shown a card of some kind. It was a ridiculously late "challenge", I'm not quite sure what he was thinking, the ball was gone a long time before he struck Grix.

Glad SL's back though!

Wigan scored 200 tries last season, 99 by Richards, Tomkins and Charnley
Its Round 1, come back in October ;)

Or, looking at it another way, its the first game of the season and EVERY team in SL is going to be a bit spluttery, wayward passes and not quite clicking. It's to be expected for round 1. Huddersfield were far from perfect either.

Matty Bowen - no case to answer! Well ok then.

Lol! Well ok then indeed. That was unexpected. Oh well, good luck to him and Wigan in the WCC. SL teams have fared pretty well in the WCC recently, or have at least been competitive in the games, but maybe it being in Australia this year might push it beyond Wigan.

Utterly dominant display from Saints this evening. I was actually quite scared by how good they were. Certainly no early season rustiness on show from them tonight.

Warrington just didn't have the answers. Missing Briers? Maybe, but there was enough talent out on the pitch tonight wearing primrose and yellow to put up more of a fight. Tony Smith will be disappointed.

What a player Luke Walsh looks. Had a hand in pretty much everything and bagged a try at the end there, great debut and this performance tonight will have certainly caught the attention of the other SL clubs.

LOL, I think you mean primrose and blue :D

Warrington were great for the first couple of minutes but then Saints just stepped it up a gear and Warrington had no reply!

Luke Walsh looks mighty, great debut as you as say and his kicking was spot on. Roll on a Catalans win tomorrow now :D

D'oh yes! Er...primrose and blue! Damn finger trouble.

You're right about his kicking, never looked like missing a single conversion.

More very bad news after Carvell has been "poached" for Bradford. Looks like Sammut has now signed for Wakefield. That must be devastating blow for them. Dodgy circumstances with Carvell leaving. Lots of rumours flying around.

Looks like Rovers strategy of not playing many pre-season friendly minutes badly backfired on them yesterday. They were well off the pace, particularly the backs and we got battered in front of a record crowd. Both sides were rusty, but Leeds were less rusty!

Disappointed that Burgess has switched to RU and am surprised that SSR couldn't match his earnings at Bath. No doubt he will be paid handsomely for any international appearances he might make by the RFU.

Ominous stuff for Wigan. Its taken 26 minutes for them to have a ptb inside 20m. The biggest difference I notice between the SL and the NRL is the size and power of the backs. They are practically SL forwards in size! The power of their running is immense.

HKR back from the dead at Huddersfield. Cas beating Catalan comfortably. A good start to the season

A good fightback to get a draw, but as Anderson said, we were embarrassed in the first half.

He also went on to say that we "were very niggly in the tackle and if they are the tactics we want to employ then we are a disgrace!!"

Hmmmm, take a look in the mirror, because that was a bit rich!

Having said that, I'd expect Poore to get a ban for a high shot today (besides that, Poore was very, very good today). Its what we should expect from him I suppose.

Good grief. Bradford deducted 6 points, which then prompts the prospective new owners to pull out of a deal. Now isn't that just a glowing endorsement of the team!

Desperate times for the Bulls.

I totally agree with the six point deduction. Widnes got a nine point deduction. How was that fair?

I concur.

Nice win by Saints last night, I think they may possibly take SL by storm this year. Provided that Walsh keeps fit, they really will be a team to contend for titles this year. Somehow I doubt we will get the 3 wins over Saints that we got last year! Should be going to the friday night game in a weeks time, meanwhile there is the matter of the Cas game tonight. Looking forwards to it, expecting it to be tight, they always are but hopefully will win!
