The turning point was the Widnes try just before half time. As a game it was completely ruined by yet another baffling performance by James Child. Ah Van was never a red card. Its the sheer inconsistency that gets players riled up. All you can ask is that there is consistency throughout the game and it just didn't happen.

Wigan got the rub of the green and built what should have been a winning lead. Through a combination of a strong Widnes comeback, some shocking discipline and some head scratching decisions (on a par with the ones that went for Wigan earlier) we got to what was probably a fair result. Well done to Widnes. Good crowd too.

More to come for Smith and Tomkins I'd imagine

Probably a fair assessment that.

Missed the Saints game last night. Was it a decent game? And how did Travis Burns go?

Certainly been plenty of talking points so far.

Yea I expected something like that.

Disappointed by the Rovers result. The performance was alright though again defensively a bit weak at times. But to put 30 points past Leeds and still not win tells you something doesn't it.

Haven't seen the game back yet so I'll have a better idea of how we went after that. Onto Wakefield now and what is a "must win".

Salford looking good so far in this first 10 minute. They will give a lot of teams a good game this season. Dobbo and Hock are going well so far.

Edit: After an exuberant start it isn't looking so rosy now...

Standard from Gareth Hock. Such a shame as he has the potential to be an awesome player. But he constantly lets himself down with stupid digs, or with his knees as seen tonight. Utterly stupid, there's only one thing that I am sure of, he clearly has no brain whatsoever.

This is actually quite appalling from Salford now, Harris just looks aghast. Locke in particular has been shocking.

Just watched the Saint's vs Salford game that I'd recorded, and in the 1st 10 minutes or so Salford showed real promise....then just unravelled completely.

I mean seriously, WTF was Hock thinking with the knees? He got away with it the first time, somehow, so does it again. Twice. In full view of an official. As a Widnes fan I used to say we needed Hock back. Not after that, Salford can keep him.

I just feel sorry for the grass roots Salford fans, they deserve better than this.

He's a thug. Total liability and hardly a role model for young kids.

Salford will win some games this season but there are some bad eggs/prima donnas in that Salford team and until they get rid I doubt they will make an impact.

No team should take Hock on. He's a massive liability. Part of me thinks he enjoys sitting on the side lines earning money to do sod all.

Salford need a decent hooker tbh.

I said it last night re: Koukash - "a fool and his money are easily parted" :p

But you can see what he is trying to do and his heart is in the right place. He is just trying to build a successful team and get some decent crowds, which given the Salford catchment area, it really deserves.

I think your point is probably better worded in "money doesn't buy a successful team overnight". Rovers are sometimes guilty of this too.

There's something seriously wrong there. A complete lack of any spirit at all. They look badly conditioned - they were blowing out of their arses after 10 minutes. Scott Taylor's belly looks like something a prop had in the 80's. Sadly, Harris will probably be the fall guy for all this.

Totally agree. Moments of brilliance on the pitch, totally overshadowed by this bizarre need to lash out like a petulant child. I have to wonder at what point would the SL consider stepping in and banning a player if they carry on like Hock has?

Yeah, made me laugh that too! I'm sort of glad we don't have Taylor anymore as I think he's turned a bit arrogant since, wouldn't have him back now.

Ouch! Nasty looking chicken wing tackle that from the Wigan player, missed who it was. Could have been nasty for Crabtree.

Also, WTF is going on with Charnley's haircut!?!?

Hmmm, wonder how much of this weather they see in South Sydney?

Just back from a week away and haven't seen the Wigan game yet (apart from Gelling being Gelling). I thought the Wire game was th ebest Tv game so far this year. A coupl eof points:

If its close going into the last few minutes, its a safe bet putting your money on the NRL team. They play 15-20 really intense games per year. Our top 4 play about 10

When we go over there, the NRL refs batter SL teams. When Aus teams come over here they seem to get a lot of dubious calls (Kevin Penny's head is still missing). Would it be cynical to say that our refs don't want to ruin their chances of doing an ANZAC test and having a nice holiday in Stydney?
