*** Official Rugby League SLXX Thread ***

Wouldn't want Hock at my club. He's caused nothing but trouble at every club he has been at.

What a game today in east Hull! I don't think my nerves can stand any more games like that! A brilliant game though, not especially in quality of rugby league but it had just about everything else! Credit to Rovers for coming back from what looked like a winning scoreline of 6-20. Conceding a try straight from the kick off at the start of the second half and it was "here we go again" time. But fortunately (for Rovers) we managed to battle back for the win and Mantellato kicked some fantastic conversions given the horrendously windy conditions. I think Charnley may be up for a disciplinary on Monday for kicking out at Terry Campese in a rather similar manner to Smith.

Good win for Widnes today and still surprised that Huddersfield are without a win. Maybe they are taking their new mantra of "don't start the season off too fast, save yourself for the end of the season" too far! Haha!

Oh, and anyone seens Chase's try on the weekend against Hull? Wow..

Catch it here:

Hock will be the target of every young Championship 2nd rower looking to make a name for themselves. Many more suspensions coming his way.

Wigan throw away another match winning lead. I didn't go. The general consensus is that they have just lost too much quality without replacing like with like. Blake Green being the final straw. Form the GF side of 2 years ago they have lost Tomkins, Green, Richards, Goulding (who I believe had a good game today) and made one relatively big sigining (Bowen). There are loads of good young players but they just look to be lacking some real quality

Gouldings offload to Ken Sio for his try really was something special. As long as he is injury free he will be a real asset to us and was always surprised Wigan let him go. I guess that's just how it goes though, we've lost our fair share of good players too, Dobbo and Green to name but two.

Saw the Broncos v Souths game from the NRL. Brisbane beat Wigan in a close game in extra time. Souths steamrollered Brisbane. I reckon Sts caused them more bother than Brisbane did. It puts the performance of Sts into perspective. Souths are a very good team at the peak of their powers.

Leeds seem to be doing it right with the mixture of youth and experience from last night.

Utterly confusing decision at the death of the Salford Catalan game to give Salford a penalty after Escare didn't realise he was tackled. The rule now is that the player is told and they go back and play the ball again but Bentham gave them a penalty, which Salford kicked over to draw the game. Baffling.

Controversial?

I missed the game last night on Sky as I have a serious case of manflu!

Disappointing loss for Rovers last weekend as they worked their socks off but missed out on the win against a very subdued Wire crowd.

Onwards against Catalan tomorrow, which for Rovers is aided by the loss of Todd Carney. Equally, we have had to say goodbye to Mick Weyman who has retired due to a serious knee injury. Disappointing to see him go as he was a good (try scoring!) forward. However almost immediately we have got Shaun Lunt in. It was always rumoured we would sign him on the off season so its a bit weird that the deal has now gone through! Maybe a cap issue, I'm not sure.

On all accounts Josh Hodgson has gone well in his first game for the Raiders in their win against the sharks.

Really wish him the best for the future and can only be a good thing for England. You have to say though, if only the likes of Roby went over to the NRL, maybe he could have been measured against the best in the world, so for that reason I am hoping that Josh can make a real fist of it and with any luck be bigger and better than the likes of Roby, which would really be saying something!

I'm always quicker to reply to this thread when we win, but boy, what a win!

It was a bit of a repeat of the Wigan game, trailing 4-20 at HT, it was crucial Rovers came out in the second half and scored first. They did, then hit another two trys in quick succession and that seemed to break the Catalan spirit. A rare thing indeed. They ran in 46 unanswered points to win 50-20.

Kelly and Campese were outstanding. We knew we couldn't win if we went up against the Dragons front line so we shifted it out wide and scored bags of trys, Sio getting a hatrick.

Rovers are now 2nd behind the Leeds Rhinos in the number of points scored for and second last in front of Salford for points scored against. Tells you a lot, I think. Also, I don't think we've had such a good goal kicker than Josh Mantellato for years. 7/9 today with some very difficult kicks from the edges.

Saints vs Warrington tonight.

Go on saints. Should be a crackin match. Warrington have beaten us 6 times recently, which in itself is a strange occurrence considering the history, so hopefully we can regain some pride.

A couple of potentially very good games on TV this week. Good test for Saints tonight, but I still fancy them in a close game.

A few injuries for Wigan for the Leeds game tomorrow. They made really hard work of Hull last week. They seem slow and methodical in attack. Didn't fully realise just how good Blake Green is. Until Wigan get a settled half back pairing they will struggle to cause an attacking threat to the top teams. Leeds by 10.
