*** Official Rugby League SLXXI Thread ***

What a great few weeks it has been for Widnes. Looking forward to a difficult game against Hull FC tonight.

I'm thinking Salford will be deducted 4 points minimum. Wakefield losing their coach due to lack of fund? KR getting a new coach. Everything is going crazy!

Lost track of this thread already! Barely seen a match on tv either, been so busy!

Bad times at Rovers. Bad times. Hopefully our ex-player Webbo will be able to arrest the downturn a bit and Campese returning will make a bit of a difference. Bottom of the table clash this weekend against Huddersfield! How many times have we said that recently? :)

The atmosphere at Widnes is still the same as what it was when I went under the stands at half time against Leeds; "err... what's going on? Is this happening? I don't understand... SHHH! Don't jinx it!!".

I thought Leeds put a pretty good shift in with all the players missing. Wigan had almost as many out, but the key thing was no Sinfield. It took Wigan 2-3 years to cope with losing Farrell. He would drag them over the line in close finishes. They have loads of good young lads coming through. They'll be right.

Having an NRL overload at the moment on Premier Sports. Highly recommended.

Agreed. I thought he'd be a good signing but he's not proving it so far. I wonder if he'd seen Cuthberston throwing miracle offloads all last season and thinks that's what's expected. He's better than what we've seen.

From a Wigan point of view, the 2nd half was their best performance of the season so far and Josh Charnley's best game for about a season and a half

I can never justify the expense of Sky Sports (+HD), then another £10 for Premier Sports. It all adds up to around £80pcm which I will always baulk at. Shame really, but all I want sky sports for is RL!

My first live game of the season this weekend at home against Salford. If we don't win that, then we really are wooden spooning it this year! Quite an unbelievable decline over the last 3 years or so.

Sky's pricing is ridiculous. NowTV is worse. £7 for a day of Sky Sports?? I can go to the cinema for that... £5 and I would buy it but £7 is a month of Netflix.

What is everyones thoughts on the season so far?

We are doing better than I anticipated but this winning in the last 20mins can only last so long surely.

I am already fed up with the Sky commentary team. Seriously what is the point in them having Cummins - does he ever agree with the decisions anymore?

Rumour has it that next season the commentary team will be Brian Carney and A.N Other.

It's better than Stevo though...

Looking forward to tonight. We will either get smashed in the first 20 minutes and never come back, or it will be a nail biting game where I lose another year off my life and spend most of my time shouting at the TV screen on my feet.

All of this. Can't complain as they would have lost 3 out of the 5 games they have won this time last season.

I've been sick of Eddie and Stevo for a few years now. Good for their time, but their time isn't now.

No complaints from me. Widnes were the best team on the night. When they got back into the game I thought we'd see if they could handle the pressure. They scored 2 tries in minutes! They can handle it.

Whilst I hate losing, Widnes is a real RL town and its good to see them back challenging.

Well there's the first win of the season and my first game of the season. Tale of two halves. First half Rovers were totally dominant and our forwards really gained some good ground. Breezed to a 30-6 lead at half time. After the break though, Salford came out firing on all cylinders and whipped up a few tries. It was a nervy ending and Dobson did to us exactly what he used to do for us. He controlled every play and moved Salford round the park well. Nail biting ending but a late try sealed it.

We're not bottom any more!!!

FC next....no pressure then....

Four of our best players are out for the game against Wire. This could be a walk over if the team isn't careful. It's basically the team we had out for one of the pre-season friendlies and we were caned.

They're also sold out on their stadium! We got 15% of the tickets which have now also sold out so it will be difficult it out sing, even if they hardly ever make a noise ;)

Nah, it'll be easy, they only sing when they score a try and even then they rely on the annoying drummer! :)
