**Official Sapphire Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Extreme 5850 Extreme Owners Thread**

Is it just me or is the 11.5 not as stable as 11.4??? There's no benchmark improvement what so ever and very unstable. I tried 11.5 hot patch and it's even worse. Uninstalled 11.5, cleaned all the ati display drivers and now back to 11.4 and everything's fine. Weird....

Solved P5N-E-SLI and ATI 5850

Ok here ya go this is what i did and it now works .WITH BIOS UPDATE 1406

Do this in normal windows and with your old Nvidia graphics card in or ATI
1 .uninstall all your current graphics drivers you have on your pc at the moment in normal windows Boot in device manager and add and remove programs {DOWNLOAD THE ATI DRIVERS 8.762.0.0 CAT 10.8 }

2 then run driver sweeper ver 2.1.0 (dont not update the program) and remove any nvidia drivers and the PHYSX drivers do not reboot yet

3 go into windows regedit , and remove any traces of nvidia entries EXCEPT the Raid driver entries do not
Delete any lines in the system for nvidia only in the softwear hotkey entries

4 now reboot in to Bios

make sure in ya bios you have pci express as your first graphics device make sure system fans are set to auto in Bios Save and exit

5 Boot back into safe mode and then run driver sweeper ver 2.1.0 (dont not update the program) and run a check you have no left over nvidia directorys in your registry hotkey softwear

6 Reboot back into safe mode and check it is compleaty clean and shut down

& NOW THE BIG TRICK SHUT DOWN AND REMOVE YOUR POWER LEAD AND GRAPHICS CARD LEAD AND YOUR OLD GRAPHICS CARD AND PUSH YA POWER ON TO DECHARGE ANY VOLTAGE YA HAVE LEFT ON THE BOARD

REMOVE YOU OLD GRAPHICS CARD AND TAKE OUT THE SLI SINGLE OR DUAL GRAPHICS CARD SELECTOR
& INSTALL YOUR NEW ATI GRAPHICS CARD CONECT BOTH POWER LEADS AND THEN THE MAIN POWER LEAD AND YA MONITOR LEAD { I USED THE DVI OUTPUT }

TAKE CARE THAT THE CARD IS SITTING PARALLEL AND SQUARE MINE WAS A BIT SHORT SO THE CASE SCREW WAS PULLING THE CARD OUT SLIGHTLY ,ONLY TIGHTEN SO IT HOLD IT THERE
(Its not going anywear and wont fall out }

now turn on ya PC and not ya monitor untill ya hear the windows welcome turne

7 turn on your monitor power if you dont see any display power off holding the case power for 4 seconds
then power it back on

8 this time you should see your display at last ,install the drivers 10.8 you downloaded earlier

and then shut down windows

remove the graphics card like you did the first time makeing sure you push the power on button to clear any stored power in the mobo Put the SLI SELECTOR card back in on single card

Refit you graphics card and x 2 pcie power leads making sure it is sitting right (EG the screw is not pulling the card out a bit }
connect your monitor lead and power lead

Power on you PC and hey presto ya have a ATI 5850 working in you pc with out any tricks ,eg pushing reset 10 times, clear cmoss, and all that crap

IT JUST WORKS AS IT SHOULD FIRST EVERY TIME

( I think that the sli dual or single card selector is the root of the all troubles with the P5N-E-SLI )

MINES RUNNING LIKE THE WIND NOW YIPPpY I HOPE THIS HELPS MANNY OTHER people

Some say 11.5 is more stable for 6xxx cards but not for 58xx? Has ati given up on 5xxx cards already now? Same thing happened to my 4850 a few months ago when installing 11.3. Guess there isn't much point upgrading drivers for past generation cards then???

I didnt have problems with the 11.5 drivers before I installed Sapphire Trixx,it must have been the app that was conflicting with it,Strange.

I got mine yesterday (ignore my sig - have both a 5830 and a 5850 but no board that'll take both of them :P) and I put the clocks up to 800/1200 right away. Any idea how far these things'll go? My 5830 does 850 on the core without any issues, but I've heard the 5850s don't like as high clocks.

As viewable from my sig, I can get mine to 900/1200 with 1200mV completely stable.
Could probably go further but I don't need it to really.
Sapphire trixx is just as good as msi afterburner, but you can overvolt with trixx.
If the overvolt doesn't work in trixx disable ULPS in the settings.

1200 seems to be the limit really, I can't get past that either. Running stock volts though. Core's at 810 now, didn't like 820 - BSOD after 10 minutes of Furmark 1.9.0.

Hi everyone. Noob here.

System Spec:
Q8200 @ 2.3Ghz Yorkfield
4GB DDR2
Asus P5Q-E Mobo
Cosair 650w power supply
Sapphire 5850 Extreme
Windows 7 64 bit

I recently upgraded to a 5850 from my 4850, which was starting to show its age on a few of my more demanding games, however since upgrading I've noticed no improvement, and in some cases like GTA4, a decrease in performance.

I followed the installation instructions to the letter, and after using DriverCleaner to get rid of my old drivers managed to get my card up and running on Catalyst Control Centre 11.5, but have had no improvement in any of my games.

A few benchmarks: I use a 1360x768 resolution for my monitor and I have anti-aliasing on at 4x for all these games.

Company of Heroes high settings; 4850 around 50 fps, 5850 60 fps
Unigine Heaven, Direct X 11 and Tessellation; Average 38fps (not tested on 4850)
GTA IV Medium settings, v-sync on, definition on; 4850 around 30fps, 5850 less than 20! Playing I rarely get above 20 on the 5850.
FarCry2, High settings; both 4850 and 5850 just about playable on high settings around 25fps, but any higher it becomes unplayable.

So I would like to know, is this problem due to me not getting rid of my old drivers properly, or am I being bottlenecked by my CPU? Should a q8200 quad core be bottlenecking quite so much? I know GTA IV is quite a processor intensive game, whic would explain such poor performance, but still it shouldn't be performing worse than a 4850 I am quite sure.

I am thinking about sticking all my important stuff on an external HDD, wiping my hard drive and re-installing windows (to make sure the old drivers are gone) and then perhaps overclocking my CPU to help a bit, but I wanted your advice, is there anything I could've missed? would registry entries for the old drivers be responsible? I am sure I deleted most of them but I am cautious about what I delete from my registry so may have missed some. I wasn't expecting this card to perform as well as the benchmarks I've seen online, due to my system, but this seems unusually slow.

I plan on upgrading to an i7 setup at around christmas time, and bought this card to be used in a newer system I plan to build.

I brought a twin forzr 5850 when it was on offer for £125, im thinking of buying one of these to x-fire.

I have a antec true power 650w that looks like its enough to run them.

My mb only does 16x /4x but that doesnt look like it will be a big deal as you only lose a few fps.

I thinking with bf3 in mind.

It would cost £115 inc del to where i live.

What do you think?

I have 3 of these cards in 1 machine all running at 900Mhz core no problems, but still haven't been able to find anything to modify the voltage on any of them ? :(

I recently purchased one of these cards from Overclockers and am very impressed with it. I upgraded from a Nvidia 8800GT and it is basically twice as fast at stock settings.

Running mine at 900/1200 with the latest version of Trixx. Scores 7.8 in Windows 7 index. For £100 you can't go wrong. Fantastic card :)

Does the voltage control work for you? I'm on 900 | 1200 too and I've set trixx to 1.2volts but it still shows at 1.088 on gpu-z.
