*** Official SONOS Thread ***

Currently missing something Sonos for the lounge so think it's only right to add a soundbar to the mix for the TV.

I think the Arc may be a bit overkill.

Is there a vast difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Beam? I'm weighing up the pros and cons of that or if I should just save some pennies and get a Ray.

I’d get the gen 2 if it is for regular living room use it sounds better, has more features and is nicer to look at. If it was a bedroom or snug where you weren’t going to use it as much I’d go with a beam 1. You won’t be disappointed which ever you go for the sound quality from such a small package is exceptional!

It Just Shows Dolby Digital+ 5.1

Samsung UE55MU7070

I was quickly watching The Forgotten Battle.
I'll try something else
Hi I've just tried Netflix and Disney apps on my Sony XF and both only gave DD+ 5.1. tried on my Firestick 4k and Netflix was still in 5.1 but Disney I was able to get Atmos. I tried Guardians of the Galaxy 2, on the room screen in Sonos app it shows Dolby Atmos and in the About My System screen it shows Dolby Digital Plus (This is the container used). Tried Lord of the Rings show on Prime and can get Dolby Atmos there as well, so not sure why Netflix wasn't working, will have to investigate further.

It is possible to get Dolby Atmos via DD+ but it depends on apps/device, basically a minefield :(

Edit, Google search show's it's a Netflix limitation on the Firestick (Old OS version) why Atmos doesn't work, but it will on the newer 4K Max stick. So Black Friday purchase for me and I'd recommend trying one for yourself depending on what you watch, etc.

I'd go Beam Gen 2 and sub mini if you can afford it. Would sound better the combined 2 than the arc on its own.

Curious why you would recommend this when none of the streaming platforms use DTS and the only way to get DTS is physical media. Is it personal preference or have you had issues with DD+?
Most of my watching is via Plex with DTS tracks, then again I don't own a Samsung TV.

Having just purchased a Gen 2 Beam I have to say it is a quality piece of kit. Sound quality is simply brilliant and build quality is premium. Not seen or heard the Gen 1 but you won't be disappointed

I haven't done a direct comparison between a Gen 1 & Gen 2 Beam in the same room but I have a Gen 1 at my house and my brother has a Gen 2. The Gen 2 didn't sound massively better. I certainly wouldn't bother upgrade my Gen 1 to a Gen 2 as they bound sound very good.

I can't comment on the Ray.

My Sonos Beam 2 and Sub Mini is way better after the 14.18 update. I noticed the improvement to the bass straight away.

It's the opposite for me, the sound in my study from 2 x Play 1 and a Sub Mini is definitely flatter than it was prior to the update. Bass is good, but the mid range is pretty poor.

Edit - Following another Trueplay tuning and a few days usage the sound is greatly improved.

If anyone has the previous sub too, let us know your thoughts on how it compares. I recently moved my sub from the lounge 5.1 setup to a pair of ones and am considering a sub mini for one of these setups and the full size sub for the other.

I did a direct comparison yesterday. There's a definite difference between the two and as you'd expect the Sub sounds better than the Sub Mini but I'm not sure it sounds £320 better.

In my house the Sub is in the living room and Sub Mini is in my study. If I didn't already have the Sub I'd be perfectly happy with the Sub Mini to go into the living room.

Thanks, I will add on a sub mini when the time comes, the full size sub is working very nicely as part of my indoor cycling setup where I don't have to worry so much about disturbing the neighbours. Unfortunately a new monitor will have to take priority this month as the backlight is playing up, but that's a subject for a different forum.
