I can't decide between getting either the Arc or the Beam Gen 2. Is the Arc twice as good as the Beam for instance? (Only thing putting me off getting the Arc is the cost itself) Does room size matter, my Living room isn't the most spacious.

Just a quick heads up if you’re thinking of buying either Sonos are doing Black Friday pricing for 10 days from the 18th. Arc will be down to £699 and the beam 2 £349.

Thinking of getting a Beam 2 plus Sub Mini. Daft question but how does volumes control work? Is it just via HDMI ARC and your TV remote?

Also, I already have 1 x Play One in the living room. Would it use this as a rear channel despite there only being one of them?

If you are using ARC (or optical even) yes it sets up the remote for you and just integrates.

I don't think you can add a single rear, but in the mean time you can justy add the Play One to the same room and have the sound come out of that too.

I’ve been holding out for Black Friday so good to see there will be some nice savings!

Are there any options with Sonos for using it as a PC speaker and as a “normal” Sonos speaker? It would need no delay though which I had previously with a Bluetooth speaker.

I have my PC running on a Beam 2, two 3s for rears and a sub and it is fantastic, so yes!

It also functions as you would expect Sonos to do with all the other Sonos in the house.

You can change the volume either by your TV remote as you currently do or you could di with via the Sonos app.

It's less useful for me when watching TV, but I have an Ikea Tradfri gateway and a couple of Ikea sound remotes so I can control the volume of the speakers without needing to open the app or touch the buttons on teh speakers. Very useful in my setup where the speakers in the kitchen are up on top of the cupboards.

It's the opposite for me, the sound in my study from 2 x Play 1 and a Sub Mini is definitely flatter than it was prior to the update. Bass is good, but the mid range is pretty poor.

Edit - Following another Trueplay tuning and a few days usage the sound is greatly improved.

So this is what happened?!

I wondered why my Play 1s sounded utter **** all of a sudden! My fault for having auto update enabled I suppose.

I had to mess about with EQ for ages to try and sort it out. I'll try Trueplay though, not that I've found it to be any good in the past.

Sigh.

Looks like I still can't ask the Google Assistant to play a BBC radio station via the sounds apps. It keeps wanting to play it from Tune In (which the BBC stopped streaming through there in order to force users onto their BBC Sounds App).
