*** Official SONOS Thread ***

Think the 5 is too big for my needs so only really looking at the 1. The Bose seems more suited to my needs currently due to it being a wireless speaker to the devices I'll be connected versus the Sonos which needs to be loaded up via the app or the connect.

I thought they done away with the 'connect' part and you don't need it unless you've got them in multiple rooms?

Can you use the Sonos as a speaker for say an iPad or Macbook which is watching a something like Netflix?

You don't need the connect at all anymore. You can connect your whole multi room system via normal wifi.

You can still use a connect or a boost if you don't want your Sonos traffic using up your wifi bandwidth.

Is the battery an important feature?

If not then the Bose SoundTouch 10 is worth a consideration. More powerful then the SoundLink Mini with the option for either Bluetooth or WiFi (APP) function.

The Bridge and Connect are being mixed up here, the Connect is a Sonos connection to third party HiFi equipment the Bridge/Boost creates a Sonos Wifi network.

So did not think about the Soundtouch as always thought it was a lot more expensive and a lot bigger, will have a listen of all three this weekend to help pick.

Also a Bridge isn't actually required anymore is it? You can directly connect a Sonos to Wifi now if I've read up properly.

Yup no bridge or boost required.

My Sonos really benefitted from its room tuning function - so if you go for Sonos make sure you can get your hands on an iOS device to do that.

It's expensive to put speakers in the ceiling once the upstairs floorboards are down. Presume you know this or you're handy at DIY?

I looked into ceiling spot lights, I asked my neighbour for a quote as he's a sparky and I was shocked at the amount of time it would take.

Yeah I'm pretty handy as you mention it i will be adding downlights in the kitchen anyway and the access to wiring will be upstairs so I'm going to wire for ceiling speakers and run it back to the understairs cupboard where all my equipment sits until i can afford or warrant the sonos amp

So wish they do this with Apple Music.

thats one of the bug bears about going into sonos app to start apple music with android however as far as Spotify was concerned it was airplay enabled or whatever its called

Looking forward to amazon echo working with sonos it would mean we use it more often as its a pain searching through playlists with the phone.

Tested out the Sonos Play 1 and the Bose Soundtouch 1, Bose connectivity wise is amazing but lacks bass. The Sonos was amazing but may have had a slight advantage as it was paired stereo vs the single Bose.

One thing that confused me was how Sonos is connected. The sales person said she can easily take it from one room to another without connecting it to the router but from what I understood from previous research is that you need to connect at least one of the Sonos system to the router via Ethernet for it to set up a Sonos network.

No it runs on its own mesh network if your talking initial setup you hook it up via wifi to let it download updates etc then as far as I'm aware it will create its own network. Back in the early day i had to have at least one sonos connected to Ethernet in the home theatre setup but they have since done away with that so i can run 5.1 if i choose without Ethernet hookup

I think the wifi only setup doesn't use the Sonos mesh, just standard wifi.

If you connect one unit via Ethernet or use a bridge/boost then you can use the mesh setup.

Managed to get a couple play 1's for my birthday present off the Mrs. Arrived today, but birthday isn't till another 10 days! Will have to put up with these teasing for a wee while longer. Quite excited though, it's my first dip into sonos.
