*** Official SONOS Thread ***

If you check the room settings there's an option to set the gain in the line in setting which lets you tweak the level up and down loads.

At default the gain is low and is a lot quieter than the standard wifi volume.

So approaching a week with the HEOS 3 and luckily, thanks to a friend had the opportunity to loan a Sonos play 3 to do some comparisons.

As expected the first thing I'd say is that they are both great. The Sonos has definitely isn't as clean (or pure) as the HEOS but for filling a room with warm engaging music its fantastic. Bass isn't as refined with the HEOS and needs tweaking out of the box and the app isn't a patch on the Sonos one (as I suspect). That said, put the right source through the HEOS and think it edges the Sonos play 3 on sound quality across a spectrum of different music types.

Through Sigur Ros to Fetty Wap the HEOS tends to deliver, I felt the Sonos excelled more in music that sticks to the mid range (which is understandable and promotes it's popularity). I actually preferred the Sonos on some tracks and the HEOS for others.

If I had to make the choice again, for me I'd probably stick with HEOS but if I was a mainstream consumer I'd pick up the Sonos. Whilst I think the HEOS has it on the pure musical quality, the Sonos is an easier to live with product and for most makes more sense.

Both aren't a patch on a decent separates system honestly, compared to a reasonable separates system I've owned in the past (NAD separates with B&W fronts) the sound quality is significantly inferior (but surprise but just pointing it out).

Personally it fits the bill, (either Sonos or HEOS) decent sounding kit that I can control from anywhere that can enable a cross room solution.

Hi Guys

I am about to buy a Play1 via John Lewis and wanted to clarify some bits before I did
am I right in saying you can only listen to music from one device? So I could play from my phone but then my wife wouldn't be able to put her music on after..

Hope this makes sense :)

Thanks

Play 1 arrived today, setup was easy with the sonos app

First impressions are fantastic good bass and depth of sound, added my prime music and been listening to it all afternoon

Definitely looking to add to this purchase

There is a stupid high statistic like 90 odd percent that if you buy one you'll buy another one within 12 months.

Right folks after some advice please recently my Canton DM55 had to be sent back after a fault of only having 5 months. Richer Sounds have give me a credit note of £330 so im looking to add to that i was looking at the YSP2500 but i feel even though it be good for films i don't think it be good for music also and read reviews with the issue of the sub dropping out. So im looking at SONOS PLAYBAR with maybe 2 PLAY 1's im not looking for sub at the moment im just wondering if the set up would be ok

A. without sub for the time been
b. good for HD films music and TV

i know SONOS don't decode DTS but that doesn't bother me aslong as the sound is good i play all my films and music via Rasplex on the PI3

I do like the thought of the Sono's. But i also like the thought of the ysp 2500. Decisions decisions lol. These systems you always got to give or take. The ysp 2500 has a lot of decent connections but i also want to play music through it which the ysp 2500 would be a let down think im better off going in and getting demo's lol

I've had a sonos home theatre setup now for the past 2 years or more i cant remember off the top of my head.

I have a fair large living room but just the aesthetics of a soundbar did it for me my mrs wasn't happy i spent £1200 on two items but she is now a convert.

I have read numerous threads about the DTS issue but for the average joe who doesn't watch that many movies having your blu ray player bitstream and convert DTS to DD is easy enough to do.

I've owned an array of home cinema setups over the years and this is the sweet spot if you cant be bothered running wires in the walls.

I also have two play 1s that I've used as rears but they have been moved to my office where they get used.

Cant wait for the amazon echo to do its thing with sonos support

Ok I'm new to this, I tried someone's Sonos last month when I went to their house and once connected to the wifi I could play music from my phone but for my house I want to do the following, what do I need?

I plan to get an Amazon Echo too sooo

I want to say to Alexa to play Google Music for an Artist...and want the music to coke out of Sonos.

Also what are the differences between the different Play 1, 5 etc?

I'm not after extremely high HiFi sound as I already have a HiFi but that is also my home cinema and sometimes I like music in the room with the TV on mute with something in the background. First world problem I know. I think Sonos can solve this?

The depth of Sonos and Alexa integration is unknown - there is a plan to work together but currently they don't.

There are 3 players:

Play 1 - mono player for smaller rooms. Can be paired.

Play 3 - oldest currently available and probably the least impressive, for a middle sized room. Still mono but a bit more bass over the Play 1.

Play 5 - now second gen and a nice bit of kit. For a larger room, stereo output and a line in.
