*** Official SONOS Thread ***

I just ordered a pair of the Play:1's today with a 50% off voucher I had from work. Took a trip to a big electrical retailer to have a look and listen to one and for the size the volume was mighty impressive for such a small unit and that was in a loud shop environment. Can't wait to see how they perform in a home environment. I will use they iPad to use the Trueplay feature.

Seriously tempted to get a starter play 1 kit. Just a few questions though.

How is the wireless performance on these, I use a Asus n66u router which has fairly good range.

Is the Play 1 a good substitute for our Roberts DAB/CD player. We mainly use this for radio, CD's occasionally but I can rip stuff to my iPod touch if need be I guess.

And finally is £299 the cheapest for the starter pack, has the price been known to change?

Thanks

Haven't got it yet, should arrive tomorrow I hope!
To be fair, the Playbar and Play 1's have quite a nice bass to them anyway but I still miss having a sub!

All of what the post above says!!

Ok it arrived yesterday and WOW. Very subtle listening to music, fills the bass in nicely and makes my house shake watching movies :D
Whilst watching a movie/listening to music yesterday, I turned off the sub and then rear speakers and thought to myself, how did I listen to just the PlayBar before ;o Highly recommend it.
Think in the future I will eventually add a proper amp and the Connect to get full DTS support (not that it's an issue at the moment) but would be nice to have it.

I've got the same router as you and I've had no problems using WiFi. If you do have problems you can plug one of them in via ethernet and they'll create their own Sonos WiFi mesh that's meant to preform better.

Only reason I've not done this as I've not had the need, performance has been faultless since day one.

Yes, it's a perfect replacement. I've replaced a radio just like you have. One trick I've done is set the alarm on the Sonos units to come on in the morning and tune into BBC Radio 2.

This means that in the morning the system is "reset" and no matter what we've been listening to in the evening the Sonos start functioning like a radio again where the hardware "play/pause" button turns on and off the radio without having to get your phone out.

Cool thanks, the radio part you mention, if you pause it will it resume from where you pause or resume to live stream when you play again?

I take it the play/pause button is like an on off .

It won't buffer radio, it'll just start/stop the stream that's in its queue.

Yeah, that was my worry when I first got the Sonos. Luckily, as Basher says, it just stops the radio - rather than pausing it and you getting confused as hell when the 8am news comes on when you get home from work and you hit play :)

Folks, does changing songs sometimes take a few seconds? Or fast forwarding for example?

Even on my slow 5mbps (4.2mbps actual) internet when steaming from Spotify skipping tracks only takes about 1 or 2 seconds before the next one kicks in. I've never fast forwarded music in my life, and away from home at the moment so can't test for you.

Set the Mrs two play ones up for xmas. One in a bedroom one in the kitchen. Very impressed. I set it up downloading the app to my phone and linking spotify to it. When she sets up her phone and my sons ipad will I need to run through everything all over again or are the settings remembered?

Definitely getting a play 5 when they become more widely available.

Yep using it now. All good.

What I don't get about Apple Music generally, it seems to be easier to find music on iTunes than it does on Apple Music...

Also, shout out to RMA support from Sonos. One of my Play 5s has had a problem for many months (which I kept putting off returning) involving the speaker grill coming away from the main plastic casing (even when you try to push it back in it pops right out).

Called Sonos, within couple of mins, RMA details sent to my email, they sent out a brand new one which is now all setup, old one goes in the same box which the new one came in, they emailed prepaid label. All packed and to be dropped off at UPS access point (they could arrange collection but Im going to be in and out), oh all free of charge also.

As I said, top class, no wonders theyre the leaders in this type of product.

Which would be better for our kitchen/dinner 4m x 9m. Will be xmas pressie for wife who just wants background music. Have 2 toddlers so will not be loud.

1 x play 5 or 2 x play 1 in stereo?

I had two opposite answers earlier in this thread from minstadave and roymi6 however I am now able to answer this myself as I bought both.

i had decided on 2 x play 1 just from reviews and suggestions on here but in the shop the play 5 sounded so much better but I put some of it down to the large space and noise in store. I connected the 1's up in a largish kitchen and they sound good but even at low volumes they were missing the punch and range I heard from the 5 in store.

So Xmas eve I wizzed down the Indian and bought the 5 and I'm so glad I did. we don't have it loud and yet it fills the room better than the 1's with clearer sound and punchy powerful bass that the 1's just couldn't give. moved the 1's to the bedroom and bathroom and they're perfect for those locations.

maybe I'm no audiophile and haven't had amazing speakers before but I'm so impressed with the new 5.

You've got the new 5? So tempting. Looks like a lovely bit of kit and the reviews and all great.

I've got 2 of the older Play 5 and they're excellent, the new 5 is meant to be a good deal better. Not sure the wife will let me spend £400 on another Sonos, much as she likes our setup.
