*** Official SONOS Thread ***

Got the Play:1 two starter set for the missus for Xmas. Fair to say, she loves them. We have one in the front room and one in the bedroom. Really good. So glad I got these. I have been eyeing them up for years.

Does anyone else find that the lowest volume setting is too loud sometimes?

I often like a bit of background noise when working, but usually I find it too loud and distracting even on the lowest volume setting.

The volume scale could do with being logarithmic, with a large number of smaller increments at the lowest levels.

Does anyone control their Sonos with a harmony remote? If so, what functions can you control? I'd guess you can play/pause/skip and control the volume, but is that it?

Ideally I'd like to be able to choose between a few playlists using the remote without having to fire up either the harmony or sonos app on my phone.

I tried watching some youtube reviews for these but they all sound very echoey, none sound natural; hard to know if thats a problem recording the sound or if its how they actually sound and people just got used to it.

The reviews say they are astounding. Better than the play5, which while good, wouldn't be hard to better.

This isn't HiFi kit.

Owner of a house where every room has sonos. Even the toilet down stairs...because I can.

Youtube reviews of Sonos kit? I'm not sure you can get an idea of audio kit via youtube, it's recorded by any old microphone, at any old quality then played through a completely different set of speakers.

Sonos also currently offer a 100 day return policy.

Just make sure you're 100% happy with the return conditions!

Read them in full here: http://www.sonos.com/en-gb/support/policies#return_right

Please note that only products in the original packaging with all materials and in new or as-new condition are eligible for the 100 Day refund.

The Sonos are great and for casual listening and general music they are very good BUT the quality next to my Onkyo Midi system with Sony speakers kind of shows up their weakness BUT the Onkyo and the Sony speakers all came to £600 and the Play 1's cost me £300 so you get what you pay for but im happy with my Play 1's and they serve they purpose and im looking to getting 2 more Play 1's

Another Play 1 added today for the bedroom. £149 deal at currys. Cost me nothing as I had £300 in my topcashback account from this year. Still got £150 left which I might get another Play 1 for stereo.

So that's Play 3 and a play 1 all for nothing thanks to topcashback savings.

Can't remember if I asked this or not, can I use more than 1 controller to play music from?

If I understand correctly the controller is basically the sonos app, so can I install the app on my iPod touch which has my iTunes library and iPad which has my spotify music?

thanks

Yep.

Just thinking, I have a lot of cd rips I have imported into my iTunes library, would it play these as well.

In a slightly round about way, yes: https://sonos.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/261

With Sonos I definitely think you benefit from a subscription to an online service. Just so simple.

With local music on your computers/devices you need to make sure that device is on. Obviously solved with a NAS (or similar) but not everyone has one.

I was out looking for a decent wireless speaker today and personally I didn't like the Sonos (tried the play 1 and the play 5) it felt as if it had some serious signal processing going on which results in quite an artificial sound. Just my own view. I ended up going for something portable anyhow (JBL Fiip 3 which is surprisingly decent for it's size and cost £50) but I'm lost as to all the fuss about the Sonos stuff

Easy of use and convenience..... And it's "on trend" ;)
Any decent budget Hi-Fi set-up over the last 20 years will blow it away..... But the baggage of setting it and making a bit of effort seems to put most people off.... But then how many people actually listen to music as opposed to just having a constant noise playing around them?
