Ouch, arc isn't reviewing that well

ahttps://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&id=1591262781

well can't say I'm surprised. No lpcm support, no atmos upsampling, no hdmi inputs, no rear height channels... writing was on the wall
That review is exactly what everyone expected surely? Sounds better than the Playbar with some badges on the box to make it look competitive. Sounds worse than the competition but makes up that with the Brilliant Sonos ecosystem. It is likely to sell well as most Sonos products do although for me they really need to sort out the S1/s2 mess with you at least being able to stream music to S1 devices in an S2 system in some way survey it can’t be that hard even if they have to release a bridge device to interface between them.

My housemate has two speakers, both which are the older speakers.

Can I have his old ones on the S1 app and my newer ones on the new app and run two seperate systems on the same network?

So anyone gone for the arc yet?

I'm still waiting to see reviews first. Sadly I have a LG OLED55B7V so I don't have earc either and doubt lg will do a firmware update for it. Still means I can get the lossy atmos side of things which pretty much all streaming platforms use anyway.

I just took delivery for the Arc today and one had a quick play with it. I myself have the LG OLED B7 too and have been struggling to get Atmos working on it yet (I think I need to get an Apple TV) but from the what I've heard of it so far, it is a big improvement to the Playbar which I am upgrading from.

You should be able to get DD+ which can carry the lossy atmos signal, which is what Netflix and Disney use. Have you tried those through the TV app making sure the hdmi from the arc is plugged into hdmi port 2 (arc port). I'm not sure however if it will display DD+ or DA in the about in the sonos app. Although you can be the test subject now as you have the same TV haha.

If you have Disney stick star wars on as that's definitely in dolby vision with dolby atmos and see what it says.

I tried Avengers Endgame and it was coming up on the TV that it's Dolby Audio but nothing on the app. It is 100% plugged into HDMI2 (Arc) but I'll play around with the TV apps as opposed to the Firestick now and we report back.

EDIT I went back to the TV App for Netflix and Boom Dolby Atmos works and shows up as it should do on the App. So I installed Disney natively onto the TV (as opposed to it going via the Firestick) and no luck there with all the stuff which is supposed to be Atmos. I can't seem to find anything on Prime video which is supposed to be Atmos either so haven't been able to isolate whether that is down to the Firestick or the TV...

So in short Atmos works for Netflix natively on the TV app.

Whilst doing all this I did notice there isn't much non-Netflix content on Netflix which has Atmos and most of it is only in HD as opposed to 4K!

As per Mar post, probably the reason then.

VPN'd Disney+ and got Atmos working (on the firestick). Admittedly didn't sit through a full film but the diff between Atmos and not Atmos on Disney+ didn't seem huge but the upgrade from Playbar to Arc is huge.

Been listening to Atmos tracks on Tidal today and for music the improvement isn't as big but then the selection of Atmos tracks on Tidal seem really lame for testing (a lot of Shawn Mendes tracks ).

I can 100% recommend upgrading from the Playbar especially if you manage to get 15% off with Bluelight/NUS/Perks at work like I did.

Is there any bonus to adding 3s or 5s as rears with the arc rather than the usual 1s?
No, if you you've already got 3's or 5's and want to try it go ahead, but they are overkill.

The surround rears add background music, surround effects like rain or waves crashing, or highlight bullets/X-wings etc, etc crossing the screen. The rears really help to put you in the movie and do add to the immersion but Play 1's or Ones/SL's will be more than enough.

Thank you

Decided to go for the upgrade and buy the arc. Got it for £679 and sold my original playbar for £350 so not too bad. Just waiting on it to come back into stock now.

Nice :)

Upgraded from a Beam to an Arc. Already got a subwoofer and Play 1's, sounds brilliant. Watched Bohemian Rhapsody the other day, thought I was at Live Aid :D

Haha awesome. Yeah I've got play 1's as rears, just never got the sub. But as a new version of that came out, might grab that around Christmas time just to finish it off.

@Simmz I got my sub from Richersounds around Christmas last year, it wasn't needed strictly speaking but it sounds awesome and really rounds out the sound and adds to the fun factor. Watching Star Wars or Saving Private Ryan gives a lovely bum massage :D

My Sonos One all of a sudden no longer plays BBC Radio via Google voice commands. It says 'OK...' then say 'sorry I can't find that'.

Their Twitter and community threads are plastered with complaints and they've said they're looking into it, but it's always hard in this situation to understand if it's Sonos's fault, Google's fault, or the radio provider's fault.

Whoever's fault it is, for all Sonos's advantages it can be a right pain.

Hi

Did they take payment straight away? I'm still yet to order because unsure when payment is taken considering its on back order, oh and thanks again;)

No, doesn't look like it.

Just had a look and can just see a pending charge of £1 from when I ordered it, so assume they will take as soon as it is back in stock.

What you planning to go for with your discount ;)
