The AMP will connect to a small ceiling mounted speaker outside the restaurant door. It'll also run one in the bathroom area.

Seems like a nice modular system so we can easily add new speakers or a sub if we need more oooooppphh.
 
My Play 5 Gen 1 died yesterday morning, no power to it at all. Tried different Sonos power leads, different plug sockets, nothing.

Luckily it was still in warranty so Sonos are sending me a new one out and I'll send this one back.

Wishful thinking that they replace it with a Gen2? ;)
 
Have got two Play 1's in a stereo pair in the Kitchen. I did have only one at first but after borrowing my brother's to test as a pair I immediately bought another. Adding the second made a massive difference to the room filling capability and improved the clarity, I assume due to the reduction in load on each speaker for the equivalent volume level. I know they are not cheap but their size and the fact they can be placed with only the need for a power supply makes them really convenient, especially in places like mine where situated in a Kitchen.

I wouldn't say they're hilariously bad. They not great by a long shot and certainly not worth cost if quality is your concern. But you're paying for more than just the speaker, it's the fact it's a complete streaming solution. They're great for dinner parties and the like.

The Play 5 is far better, and sounds rather good. But again, not something that i would use to sit down and listen to music (as opposed to being on in the background whilst eating etc). It's a great "dining room speaker" as i like to call them.

I've tried a Play 3 setup in the lounge and kitchen, ended up selling.

Decided to move the TV that was in the kitchen into my bedroom. I had the soundbar on the TV and two play 1's in my room, so now I have everything for 5.1 in the bedroom apart from the sub, which I don't think I'll bother with as it's already overkill enough.

That left me with a decision to make for the kitchen as the playbar was providing the music in there. I had a gen 1 play 5 before and I wasn't a fan, I still don't think it's that good and a pair of play 1's are better. However I didn't really want the cables where the play 1's would go so I ordered the gen 2 play 5. I was a little bit hesitant due to my poor experience with the previous 5. Even though it's not bedded in yet, it's blown me away. Truly fantastic sound for such a small little unit!
 
How many of the Sonos fanboys have been to a real HiFi dealer and had a demo of other kit? ...... It might be worth experiencing a wider spectrum of opportunities....
One of my local dealers who sells Sonos says quite a few customers come back after a year and chop it in and buy a real HiFi due to sound quality reasons.......
Not knocking it, great architecture, convienance, small....... Just depends on your misses priorities I guess, oh sorry I mean your priorities ....... Man up and buy proper system I say... LOL

I've got a Roksan K3 amp and Monitor Audio Gold 300 speakers in the living room, so yeah I guess I have real hifi. I also don't have any issues with Sonos SQ.

I suspect the vast majority of Sonos customers buy it for convenience and ease, not because it has the market leading sound quality.
 
Can someone tell me if I can play music on my Play 5 through the line in using an iPod or laptop, without the Play 5 being connected to a wireless network?

Also, will I have the Sonos separate wireless network in my house? It states connect any speaker to the network via Cat 5e/6, I have my Connect connected only.

Worst "Ill mess up/break my piece of hardware JUST before the warranty expires in hope of getting brand new/possibly later version" post :D
 
I wouldn't say that I was an audiophile by a long shot but I've invested a wee bit in a decent surround sound setup and also have a couple of decent(ish) speakers hooked upto an old surround sound amp for PC use so I know what good sound sounds like ;) Long story short, I bought a Sonos 1 to play about with and I couldn't believe how good the sound was especially given the limitations of the media.

Quick question - would I benefit from a second Sonos 1?

Exactly.

As I said earlier in this thread, were can I get an amp and speaker sets that can pipe multiple pieces of music into different rooms, sync between them all and have ad hoc groups. I can't (as far as I know). So i'll be sticking with Sonos to make this happen and getting a separate AV amp and speaker set for my home cinema.
 
You can, but at far higher price (and quality) with the Linn DS system.... I have 4 rooms connected and can do pretty much anything. .... But then it's not to everyone's budget admittedly..... But then the sound is great.....
 
Interesting. Looks like it may be a bit overkill for a bathroom though, and quite room consuming. I'm sure it's great if you're an audiophile, but I'd you just want good sound quality in a discrete package then Sonos is fine, especially if you stream most of the music played by it.

Finally i'll be able to use the spotify app to cast to my sonos system without relying on the rubbish sonos inbuilt spotify tab (which is really crud and doesn't even let you search / list your music by artists). I've tried a few 'hacks' to get around this but none of them seem to work properly and don't satisfy me at all.

I seriously think i'd have ended up selling my sonos system were it not for reading that link :)

Hah sadly nothing as interesting, no idea why it died and only then realised how much I used it :(

Replacement came 2 days after logging the call, got another Gen 1 but was so happy to have it back :)
