***Official Squad Thread***

Hi Squadies & Squadettes,

We have been very busy since 3.9 to squash these 3.9 bugs that stuck around. We feel we fixed one of the trickier server crashes and a lot of the disconnects.

Alpha 3.10 Changelog

  • Fixed an issue where framerates were being capped incorrectly on some high end systems
  • Fixed an issue where the some Militia members went to war without pants
  • Fixed a server crash when using objects like ammo crates or FOBs
  • Fixed a case when connecting to servers where you would recieve 'Connection to the host has been lost'. This doesn't fix it 100% of the time, but it is a massive improvement.
  • Fixed a visual issue where the player count was incorrect over the Steam API

Please stay tuned to our webpage, forums and Steam community page for the latest.

Offworld Out.

Alpha 3.11 Changelog

  • Fixed the militia's new pants giving an invulnerability shield to the wearer.
  • Fixed server browser showing 0 players
  • Added p2p relay to help with server connection timeouts
  • Confirmed all maps in rotation are working and spawnable
  • If you notice a map where you cannot spawn, please notify the server owner so they can confirm the map rotation names are correct.

So have the FPS issues diminished or are they still somewhat there?

I'm not so worried about my own rig as I think I'll be fine.

But the people I would play this game with are still skeptical about getting it, as their PC's aren't as beefy as mine.

One has a 4790K *Stock* and a 970, the other has a 4690K and an equivalent AMD card of the 970. Forgot which one.

I have a 4790k and a 970. Both are OC'd but even at stock it was fine. AMD cards will do the job no problem. It's AMD cpus that have issues with the engine at the minute.

Okay thanks for the reply. Wasn't too sure as I read a lot of reviews saying performance issues.

If you're referring to the comments on the Steam community forums then I've one thing to say... Stay away from there! It's a complete cesspool of trolls and god knows what else.

If you or your friends have have any questions then post them here and I'll tell you exactly how it is. Our biggest performance issue at the minute is still (apart from the AMD cpu issues that we're working with AMD and Epic to fix) the animation system. Currently all player animation states are sent to all players on the server even if they are not being rendered. When the player count starts creeping over 60 then the client will start to get bogged down.

Over 200 servers at the minute. Not sure if any more are needed yet!

There's a few serverside issues we want to fix before we send out server files for everyone.

I'll be on most of the night tonight as I have to record some footage for an upcoming interview and we need some sexy video playing in the background. I'll be on from roughly 1930 if anyone wants to jump on!

We have redone the way server configs are done and added them to one central file. No longer do you need to ask yourself "What file should this go in?"

We also have changed the way admins are done. You now great groups with permissions and assign admins to those groups in a single admin file.

We also have a single ban file... But wait! that isn't all!!! You can now subscribe to other servers banlists!!! Manage a few servers and want them to all have the same bans? Just add the url in the config and it will load all those bans!

If all goes well with testing these should be out soon! So admins... we thank you for your patience while we worked on these features! This wont be all, we still have more in the works, but just wanted to give you guys a heads up.

What will be required is you will need to migrate all your bans over to a new format and a new file. You will also need to migrate over your admins and assign them new permissions. Stay tuned, as we get further into testing I will publish out the new format so you can start getting your migration ready!

Few questions for those that have played this + Arma

How is this any better/different from Arma? It looks strikingly similar only with less features and probably something an Arma mod could have achieved with a little work.

This is a genuine question and in no way meant to offend anyone, I see Xcept1 is involved with Squad so would be interested to hear his take on it. What do you guys hope to improve on? Arma is great but can be frustrating at times due to performance issues and so on.

Sorry, only just seen your post. I'm a huge fan of Arma and personally I think you can't compare Squad to Arma. There's no other game out there that can do the scope and the features that Arma does. If you're looking for the most realistic military simulator then Arma is your game to go for.

Having said that, PvP in Arma is pretty poor. Aside from the poor performance and poor VOIP, to get a decent match you normally have to be in an organised group or event. There's very little teamplay in the very few public A3 PvP servers.

With Squad you can simply hop into a server, join a squad and play large scale PVP with clear objectives with people who want to communicate (and can because our voip system isn't utter trash like Arma!) without any problems at all.

Here's a few quotes from people who have asked the same question.

Imagine fully organized and tactical arma 2/3 with everyone having a mic and ACRE/Task force radio, ACE mod with medical system and the normal insurgents and insurgency mode (as well as others). But it is 100 player pvp, and you dont have to install mods, wait in base for an hour getting geared up etc, its all instant and awesome.

Squad is definitely easier to jump into. The mechanics feel authentic, gritty, and realistic, without all of ArmA's robotic structure and strange, almost arbitrary complexities. It's also, in my opinion, a better multiplayer experience with a more accepting and friendly community. You also don't have to install 400 mods to make it fun like you do with ArmA.
