***Official Squad Thread***

Now that was a spectacular game, watching all the tracer rounds flying from island to island on night maps! Shame it died a premature death as BF2 was released not long after which was a lot more polished.

Still no different to Arma,

So every realistic FPS is Arma?

Ghost Recon... Arma?
America's Army... Arma?
Insurgency... Arma?

Arma has always been clunky, like every game built on that engine. It's always start animation...stop animation...start animation... it lacks fluidity and desync is a problem too.

Squad looks much better.

Every time I see this I just keep thinking Joint Operations, no idea why.

Probably the terrain, the hills and rolling valleys, it reminds me of the JO's predecessor Delta Force.

Who said anything about realism?

Gameplay wise it plays just like Arma (juding by the videos). Maybe because the game looks tarted up on UE4 is clouding people's vision. Maybe I need to see more game modes. As for Jack Frags he is just being used to hype up the game and as a PR tool. If he is in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM involved in influencing how this game should be developed then that's my interest level in this game dropped immediately!!!

In fact I am going to find out now.

I'm liking the look of the game, but not going to make the mistake now of spending ££ when it comes out before checking whether it's actually decent or not

Pr was very different to arma, you cant be playing either for a period of time to say that. All the game setup and engines felt very different
Insurgency on a much larger scale.
Insurgency unless it really changed a lot recently is not similar either, in looks yea maybe. Modern warfare, desert to urban combat ok. But I think squad will be a sandbox type battlefield where insurgency or other small fps are very tunnel based, you are expected to follow a certain path.
In these massive operations, its fps but there is no path and you and the enemy can come from anywhere and engage in multiple ways not just small arms but calling in airstrikes manually or laser guided.
PR had fricking jdams and mortars and all sorts and yes so does arma but they were not close, arma was mission based where pr was map open ended really. PR had a player who left the FPS section to look at a map for 120 minutes, all he did was shift icons around and use voip to coordinate squads into support.

Even bluedrake says

So who is going to disagree with him?

But saying "Still no different to Arma" implies Squad rips off Arma. It implies there's no point in getting Squad because Arma exists.

Yes the gameplay is similar; they're both military sims. But Squad looks to do a much better job of it.

Judging it by the looks alone, that's why. I liked the original BF2 mod because it gave a far more rewarding and realistic experience to Battlefield, yet far more accessible than ARMA with some unique features. Player base certainly helped as well, a disciplined squad could wreck havoc and if there was a good commander in place coordinating squads you could dominate entire maps.

Only had a brief play on Insurgency and it was fun but ultimately a different experience with only some similarities.

It does look like it does a better job, but looks can be deceiving as you all know. My worry is the hype train youtubers they are getting on board will ultimately mean the online community for Squad will be flooded with random players who don't ptfo or understand team play.

Thought I would very quickly answer some questions.

It doesn't play like Arma. At all.

Jack Frags does not have any design input/decisions about the direction of the game. On a personal level, I wasn't happy with how his video came across. At all.

Bluedrake is...special. Not a fan. His "This is like if they took the engine of Battlefield 4 and combined it with the gameplay of ArmA." quote is rather ridiculous.

There will be an element of these random youtube star followers coming on the servers and "ruining" the game. It's a commericial game so it's going be even open to a wider audience than PR. They will join the game and 2 things will happen.

1. They lone wolf it and don't play in a squad. They have an awful time as they will probably be limited to the bog standard rifleman kit. No teamwork = not much fun. They leave and don't play again.

2. They join the server, join a squad and learn how to play the game from the more experienced lot. They realise how bad Battlefield/CoD actually is and live happily ever after on Squad.

In other news, PR looks to be going stand alone very soon with the 1.3 patch!

So all you guys who think "PR plays like Arma" have no excuse not to try it out for yourselves!
