***Official Squad Thread***

seen you on the server dude ;););)

had some bad games tonight lol too drunk lol

played my first full game - previously only popped in for a bit and sodded off after I got pumped a few times but stuck it out last night.

not 100% sure what I was doing - mainly just listened to the SL (though he did seem a bit green too) and a couple of the other guys in our squad. ended up second place in our squad - was well happy with that.

will post up a screenshot later and maybe anyone from here who was on can let me know who they are in game - I'd happily join up and be told what to do :D

early days for me but I get the feeling I could end up being hooked on this!

We need a squad night so we can group up.

Just had a game before i set off to work shortly. It's reminded me to keep off American servers, my word they were annoying.

That said i did bail them out. They were defending a base while the oppo were on a hill, me and another sneaked around and took quite a few out before dying.

cool m8y it is a fab game you will get the hang of it i am sure :):)

One think that is hard to do is learn the maps and general 'soeak' eg attack northern 'xyz area' enemy f5 key 9, or when some says comecto my position, but names are not shown on maps. Or there are enemies south of my position (when you have no idea who said it or what their south is/was)
It seems like an easy ish game on the surface but very hard to master, especially maps and the lingo

Not a fan of the, "F5K9" kinda system anyway as it forces people to open up the map. Normally just call out the direction on a compass and distance/general landmark.

Is a click one km and on the map each square is a km that contains keys 1-9? I presume 1-3 on the first row, working diwn to 9 in the bottom right.
God knows how people work out an enemy is 2 clicks north - is there a distance mark on binocs or scope or something or is it just check the map to see what it looks like where the enemy is? This stuff makes the game what it is to me - without it would just be a standard crappy arcade fps

The map grid references are easy to get to grips with if someone gives you the correct information to begin with. The "keypad" references the keypad on a keyboard - 7, 8, 9 at the top, 4, 5, 6 in the middle and 1, 2, 3 at the bottom. See here for an explanation on the forum.

As for the sizing of each square - it will vary per map/terrain you're playing on. On Project Reality there was a scale with the map that made it easier - this isn't (yet) implemented in Squad whilst they still work out correct scales and map layouts. For smaller maps like Logar I think each "keypad" works out to 50m, whereas a larger map like Kohat is closer to 80m.

As for how far a "klick" is depends on who is saying it and how they understand it. Traditionally, one klick is 1km. One "click" is more to do with sighting weapons - indicating how many clicks a sight takes to zero correctly to the target, for example one click is equivalent to 100 yards, two clicks for 200 yards etc. Which is quite meaningless in-game. It used to be common that newer people would think one "klick" is one grid square or 100m (at least in Project Reality).

So really, people that say there is an enemy 2 klicks north, they're probably talking out of the arse and failing to guestimate distances.

more fun was had last night though for some reason the server just emptied towards then end. spent 10 mins just sat in bushes watching enemy movement about 2-300 metres away from me (at a guess) cacking myself not knowing whether to just track or engage.
