*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

None of that makes any sense, there's no such thing as "locking settings to restrict leaks". There's no working around screen capture programs or a camera, or someone simply spewing information.
However, EA seem to be on the ball and shutting down vids quick!

Makes perfect sense to me. The beta testers are not playing the full game just sections of it. The settings seem rather limited too. It all points to them "locking down" parts of the game so testers don't get the whole picture. SWG had loads of setting for the appearance of the game and that is an old game. I'd be surprised if a new release has only the restricted settings reported so far.

It's always a good idea to read the context of a statement. If full settings were available, cranked up, and people were bemoaning the poor performance on their ancient pc do you think it might put off a lot of people trying it? Quite possibly. Besides which they aren't testing the quality of the graphics at this stage game bugs are of far more interest I would think...

I can run on max high settings but at the moment there are not many options to play with gfx wise, all we have is low/medium/high and shadows on/off

That is the way it should be, and indeed i would claim in this day and age there should not be any graphics settings at all. Technology and programmatic advancements mean we are more than at the point of games scaling the visuals to sustain a constant, playable frame rate according to hardware ability without any micromanagement of any settings at all.

Sorry but that reasoning is a load of tripe. Full settings poor performance is to be expected. I believe EQ2 released with an 'extreme' settings mode and the marketing 'for future proofing'. The idea they would limit performance to stop people moaning is ridiculous.

Two lots of flawed reasoning there, that auto settings will work and people with unrealistic expectations won't moan ;)

aargh my beta was from 22nd till the 24th so i've basically only got 6 hours to play, but i'm still downloading the massive 10gb patch =(

Yup, thats the only time we have. I've pretty much done all I can in the BETA now, you're locked to a zone with the choice of two classes with a lvl cap. I can honestly say it's the best BETA I've taken part in considering how well it worked etc. I am very excited for this game now, shame it's not out for bloody ages!

How did the zone work, was it open (a la SWG) or linear (a la AoC)? Instanced zone or open zone? How many other players did you see onscreen before lag set in? What was the level cap? Was there any PvP or just a PvE zone, if there was how did the PvP work and feel? How quick was the levelling and how many times did your character die? Were you able to try the crafting, if so what was it like and how did the crafted items compare to loot?

As I said I'm keeping what I saw close to my chest, I want to honour the NDA but I'm sure tons won't, at least being a silent but useful tester I'll be able to test again soon :) or so I'm told!
