*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I'm just keen to know if there's any hint on the style of MMORPG, is it highly instanced or is it more like a free world that everyone has access to and quests intogether?

That's the golden question, is it enough mmo to make you willing to pay monthly for, or is it something where you say, well, its good but not good enough to warrant me paying each month to play (especially in light of other , maybe similar options, which wouldn't have a monthly fee , such as guild wars 2 etc maybe). I think there is a portion of the mmo market who need to be convinced that its enough of an mmo and that will no doubt be something they will hope to address.

Its already been stated by Bioware that its 90% open world and 10% instanced. Similar to WoW. All the storylines will be instanced play. Altho, it will be hard to figure out when ur instanced as there is no transition/loading bar apparently :D

Bioware are doing some clever stuff with this game :P

Let's hope they deliver and its not the usual pre-release, greatest mmo ever, this is the second coming, mmo hype. The mmo market needs someone to ruffle Blizzards feathers, so let's see if promises made can become promises delivered or whether the hype machine ends with yet another also ran.

just had a quick go and it looked pretty good, long loading times though were a pain but hopefulyl they get sorted. its all been quite nice intereacting with teh NPC's. theres a built in quest helper type thing too.
i will be playing more later on

Where did the invite mail appear?

Is it you account mailbox on swtor.com or is it ur external mailbox eg: googlemail/hotmail?

Thanks

Ah right, you're in the beta then? Mind giving some feedback relating to the MMO side of things [free world etc] when you get a chance?

If everything that's been said so far by Bioware is anything to go on they are well aware what the current market looks like and what MMO players are looking for. The new crafting system seems a good example of trying to cater to both the casual and hardcore but unlike some games they seem to have some new and smart ways of doing this.

Check out the Darth Hater site for some good info on the game :)

I'm so looking forward to this crafting system :) I used to spend a lot of time crafting in SWG. Yep I got a great sense of satisfaction making crates of swoops for guildies. Also making extremely spec'd weapons and armour for the market.

I will also adventure thru all the different classes to see all storylines. I already see much more to keep me playing, unlike WoW. Yeh space combat maybe just a sideline, but at least its there for a slight change gametime :)

To be fair though, Bioware would give that impression. I mean you could use that exact sentence above and replace Bioware with Mythic or Paul Barnett regarding WAR and it would apply. I've long since stopped trusting the "official" line on pre-release MMO hype. Its just player opinions I go by now, and not the player opinions pre-release (as they are often just as biased/blinkered as the official line) , nor the player opinions at release (whilst still in the honeymoon period, (think Age of Conan)) , its the players opinions after 2 months that will be my absolute litmus. Thats the time when the buzz is over and any Age of Conan-esque qualities are being realistically examined. There have been many MMOs recently where the hype pre-release has reached near messianic proportions then 8 weeks after release about 6 people on the forum are actually still playing and everyone else has dropped it like a brick.

What, like 70% of the game being missing? :D

Kind of , though I was thinking more of the superbly high production values and NPC chat and quests and overall atmosphere of the first 20 levels and then the comparative crapiness of the rest of the game once anyone had taken the time to get past the initial "hook"

AoC was the epitomy of "All that glitters is not gold" :D

Absolutely love it so far :) settings are very limited so giving a benchmark on what my fps is like is pointless.

It has that SWG feel I think which to me is just win.

What needs to be asked is

Which version of SWG does it feel like? Cause from shots it looks like NGE/WoW.

Does it feel like Pre-cu, CU or NGE ?

Maybe their will be a open beta next year:(
I cant wait for this game ive been waiting for nearly 2 years now. Im so gonna book some days off work on release.

Sith warrior all the way, im also gonna get a copy for my brother whos gonna be a bounty hunter and were gonna team up all the way through killing all that get in are way.

For all the people who got Beta invites, could you list your specs? And then when you have tested it could you say how it faired on your PC? Thanks.(I would like to know as I am thinking of upgrading and need to know what will, and what won't be able to play it)

+ 1

I would be very interested in knowing this.
