*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I would just do the surveys just in case they do kick you off the test. I’m sure they will only take a couple of min to do.

Very Jealous that you will be playing tonight, have fun and enjoy!

Can somebody if they have time( I have looked through the advanced classes and worked out a few)and give a breakdown on each class from both the Empire and Republic.

Cheers.

e.g.

Jedi – Tank - Sith Inquisitor – Healer
Bounty Hunter– Dps - Sith Warrior – Tank

Have had to exit the game and re-install everything due to some characters missing from my game. Won't be playing for another 24 hours probably :(

Random thoughts so far:
- Shockingly poor graphics with few options to change them (but I can only assume that it is early days since a lot of the textures are missing)
- Have had to force AA through CCC
- Voiceovers are incredibly well done and it is great to have a Mass Effect dialogue system
- I haven't seen much combat yet. Very similar to the old KOTOR games.
- The worlds are pretty huge and it is great having different starting areas depending on your class. While instanced, it hasn't felt instanced at all yet.
- The Sith are more fun than the Republic
- Character creation options are very limited, I hope they GREATLY expand upon this.

Very much a mixed bag so far. Not much else to say for the time being.

Very very surprised by this, unless they have restricted it for beta testing(can’t see why they would do this)

Love the KOTOR games but from what I saw at E3 didn’t look similar at all?

Good, was going to roll Empire

Again, could this be limited for beta testing?

I stayed Rebel with SWG, and kept my Jedi on the good side. I've done my time with those wimpy Rebels so I'll be following the dark side with SWTOR for sure ;)

Besides darkside Jedi robes looked so much cooler in SWG.

From videos and screenshots I've seen, as well as general feedback, the graphics look to be the most polished and impressive of any MMO released yet, by some distance. Very surprised CaptainRAVE called them shockingly poor.

Yes, because you think my statement is a little over-the-top you can assume I'm some idiot who'd come out with a phrase like that.

They aren't trying to be photo-realistic. They have built an engine where everything works in tandem - the level of texture on a building or a rock is the same as the textures on a face or a piece of armour. This allows the game to age better - I mean, look at Lord of the Rings Online or Age of Conan right now. I'd say they actually look worse than World of Warcraft, because of the inconsistency of the textures. It also allows you to feel more like you are in the world - you aren't a photo-realistic human running alongside pixellated hills.

Good graphics are not all about fitting in the most pixels or having the shiniest water / light effects. To me, visually SWTOR completely blows the last big MMO, Rift, out of the water. It will probably do the same to TERA and even Guild Wars 2. It has confidence in it's own visual style and goes for art-design over complex textures.

I am waiting before making too many comments on the graphics because there are a couple of factors:

- My install seemed slightly messed up
- It is a beta (of course the beta argument only holds up for so long and has been applied to so many other MMOs).

So watch this space. Based on what I have seen so far though, they are barely better than the old KOTOR games. There is enormous potential though, the worlds are huge and really well designed.

If nothing changes when it reinstalls, however, I don't see how anyone can say those visuals are good.

Got to be some limiting factor there, either dodgy install as you stated or the client only allowing low res textures.

Some of the higher res screen shots they have released which is surprisingly few and far between at present show the game to be looking pretty nice, art style aside.

They look suitable for the market and have a nice degree of stylized art, but "the most impressive of any MMO release yet" ? and "by some distance" even? No..that I just cant agree with. I quite like the stylised approach they have taken, but to suggest that its more impressive than Vanguard, or Age of Conan, or LoTRO for example...that I simply cannot in all honesty say, obviously artistic rating varies from person to person, but I cant see how anyone can suggest the graphics on SWTOR are more impressive than AoC or LoTRO. Its better than some, but better than ANY mmo ever released? Nah...thats bong smoke talking imo :)

Artistic, absolutely. Aesthetically pleasing, absolutely. Most Impressive ever? No, that I dont agree with. Mind you, I personally disagree with the notion that Age of Conans graphics are worse that World of Warcrafts too.

Having said that, it doesnt surprise me to see such hyperbole in something regarding SWToR, if the hype wagon for the game gathers any more oomph it will be travelling at lightspeed itself :)

Seems the OcUK SWTOR guild idea seems to have run out of steam...

After playing Aion(By far the best looking MMO around) I don't really care about amazing graphics, I want something that I will enjoy playing, will be interesting to see the reviews the people on here who are in the beta give.
