*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

When playing SWTOR do you guys know how the advanced classes work, like do you have to get to level 10 or something and then you choose an advanced class?

Because I was looking at sith warrior on website and you can choose to be either Juggernaut or Marauder at some point. I think juggernaut is the path of the tank and marauder is the path of a dps warrior.

I wish they would put the class skills and talent trees up on the website, the information on the "classes" section is more like just an overview/summary.

Advanced classes are currently handled quite poorly - there is little to no info about them ingame and you can't even see the skill tree before you make "your final decision". Bioware will change this though.

You get to level 10, and as soon as you get to the second world ingame then you almost immediatly encounter the advanced skill trainer. You are correct about the paths of the Sith Warrior - for each the Juggernaut and Marauder, however, there are 3 skill paths. A purely tank path, a purely DPS path and somewhere inbetween. I haven't played about with the skills so far, but what I can tell you is that there are few people going 100% down one path.

Another problem with the classes at the moment, is that some get MUCH cooler armour earlier on than others e.g. the Juggernaut.

Your comment about "info on the website" made me laugh a little - there is more info on there at the moment than there currently is in the game! Hopefully with time they will add more in the way of tutorials.

Is there the ability to change your advanced class if you dont like it or are you then stuck with it?

Currently you are stuck with it - the game goes out of its way to tell you this, it just doesn't tell you much about the classes themselves. You can respec your skills, but not your class.

It wouldn't be so bad if you could choose your class from the character creation screen, at least it wouldn't be a waste of 10 levels this way.

Do we know of TOR is F2P or sub ?

Almost 100% going to be a sub.

Although there are problems at the moment, I still don't think we are seeing the whole build. Furthermore, there is no release date - hopefully they get it right for release.

This can be something special, but we will just have to wait until release.

Wouldn't be surpised if there is an open beta before release.

On the plus side, once you are on many of these worlds, there are no loading screens. This was one thing I absolutely hated about Star Trek Online and it is like a breath of fresh air in TOR for me.

They really need to put wookies in this game as a class choice...they've put a lot of good class/roles in the game already but am sure loads of star wars fans would love wookies, they'd look great aswell.

Instead, Bioware went for the "cyborg class" - that well known race from Star Wars

Some of the design choices in this game boggle the mind sometimes.

A couple of days left, but not really much more in the way of developments. I stopped playing a while back, but pop online now and again.

The feedback on the testing forums is still very mixed. The betaleaks website is amusing me since it is only posting the "positive" aspects of the game. I am starting to wonder how "independent" they actually are.

There is a lot of work to be done. I will be waiting to see what the feedback is like on release.

I reckon they will release in November regardless. As with many mmo releases (especially mmos involving EA) it will come down not to whether its ready but whether its deemed ready enough.

I reckon this too. I am surprised they have been given this long tbh.

If it releases in it's current state they'll get slaughtered for the LFG system (or lack thereof) and the lack of Flashpoints.

Non Star Wars fans who are hoping to move from WoW to ToR are going to be really disappointed, I think.

I would agree with this too. It needs more development, but I doubt they are going to get the time to do it.

Hey mate, I was waiting for you to respond to my post on last page...:p

EDIT: regarding the lightsabers.

Ah yes, missed that.

I personally don't think they look as good as in the films - both switching them on and using them.

It is still a very cool moment when you get your lightsaber (for the first 10 levels you get a stupid "vibrosword"). My problem is that as soon as you get a lightsaber, not long after it gets an "upgrade" - I don't want to give too much away, but if they had left this until later on it would have been better.

Again, personally, I also prefer the way in which the Jedi get their lightsaber compared to the Sith.

As with any item the lightsaber can be upgraded, but I often find myself switching to a completely new one when offered.

This provide a little more info?

The screen shots on the cake today look very very good, well IMO they do. :)

Don't read too much into beta cake. They are very selective about what they post and only post the screenshots that show TOR in a good light. It makes me wonder who actually runs that site.

The following is a .rar with a number of screenshots I have gathered so far (they were too big to upload to Imageshack and I don't have time to resize them - anyone can feel free to post them here though).

As you can see, it is a mixed bag - some shots look stunning for an MMO (or any game for that matter), while others look truely pathetic.

I am still undecided about whether to get this game. There are so many good and bad points to weigh up it is giving me a headache. I guess it will all depend on how they polish the game between now and release. The important factor is that I did have fun with every class I played and the story was incredibly engaging (most of the usual scan, kill, collect quests were so well disguised that you only realised you were doing them if you stopped to think about it).

Had a good look through your pics mate. After seeing them, I'm actually more impressed with the graphics than I was before. Reason being that there's no way that they won't have higher res textures than the few "shocking" ones in those screenshots. Thanks for posting those, I'm quite a bit happier now! :)

Having said the above though, I really do get a WoW vibe from the screenshots. Especially in swtor 2011-07-03 12-32-57-16.bmp. Really now it's just the gameplay that has me worried, which is the more serious thing to worry about too!

I would agree tbh, it does look to me like they haven't installed all of the high res textures yet. I am just very careful with MMO betas these days - 100% tired of the beta excuse - plus, this isn't really a beta anymore.

It was a playtest, so you would expect it to be much further along than a "beta" phase.

They just need to sort out the whole instancing thing next and level gaps.

I have no doubt AA will be in for release - many graphical "options" seem to be missing, but I am sure many of these will be added in due course. It can be forced through CCC pretty well anyway.

what do you reckon will be needed to max out swtor comfortably?

Impossible to say at the moment - the code is unoptimised and "laggy". A lot will change in due course, so it is impossible to predict the hardware requirements.

Good point, I've edited the ones I put up. Might be an idea to edit your .rar too Captain!

No worries, today is the last day of the test anyway, but I stopped playing a couple of weeks ago.
