*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Maybe its to control server loads for the game servers. If your game is only able to handle say 3000 people per server and you are launching with 50 servers then at max you can only handle 150,000 people online at once, sell 1.5m copies for release day and you'll end up with several hundred thousand people who cant log in. Restrict the number of people and it might make for a smoother launch, after all people are generally more willing to accept "its out of stock" than "I've got it but when I go to log in I am number 968 in the queue and have a wait time of 94mins before I can log in"

Tbh I would rather have the game downloaded and be waiting in a massive queue than not being able to get the game. They said they are hoping for atleast 1 million people to buy the game, but if I can't but it I will simply move on and not buy the game.

We are in 2011, if a company hasn't prepared enough for release and can't give all of their paying customers access to atleast download the game on release then they don't deserve my money.

So why cant you buy the CE yet? Cant find it anywhere?

Anyone managed to order the collectors edition in the UK?

EDIT:

The cost for the collectors edition is around £100.

Swtor website suggests 3 places to buy the game in the UK: Game, Play.com and Amazon.co.uk. Game has just the normal edition on their website and neither Amazon.co.uk nor Play.com have either editions.

Tried to preorder the regular edition on Origin.

Thank you for submitting your request for a Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ pre-order. Your request will be processed in the order it was received, while quantities last. An e-mail will be sent within 48 hours to let you know if your request was successful. If your request was successful your credit card will be charged for the pre-order. Your card will be charged for the price of the edition you ordered when the product is released.

Based on our estimates you ARE likely to receive the pre-order copy of Star Wars: The Old Republic you requested.

Hope I get it :)

Not interested in any other edition for an MMO - the monthly subs are expensive enough as it is and vanity items become useless very quickly.

Exactly what I said on the last page, how do you run out of digital stock? Surely you can sell as many as you like and then adjust the number of servers etc. based on how many are sold..That would be the simple answer to all this...

Amazon.com have the pre order collectors edition up for $149.

Amazon have updated all of their websites except the UK one it seems, this has been done terribly, this will teach Bioware to try and hdie info 'til the final second, it just doesn't work.

Just waiting for the confirmation on the order now so I can put the code into my account. Annoying thing is, if this comes out anytime in September I won't be able to play it until the very end of that month :(

Essentially, it's how it should be.

However, selling digital products are limited to how many serial numbers have been inputted into the system. If they've only added 10,000 then only 10,000 copies can be sold. Silly really. Any serious retailer would keep adding more and more serial numbers if and when needed.

Maybe the publisher is only letting them out in batches.

This is just a limited release of digital preorders to stir up demand & as for the ridiculous prices being quoted, well, they're just high because they can be, due to the demand they're stirring up :)

I won't be paying top dollah, I won't be trying to preorder and be put in a queue as to wether I *might* get a copy. I'll just order when the price & fuss has subsided to a reasonable level.

And for god's sake, anyone who pays that price for a 'collectors' edition, without the intent to sell the damn thing on, needs serious help :D

Seems Amazon.co.uk are getting ready to put it on their website. The little placeholder they had has been taken down to make way for hopefully both versions of the game.

CaptainRAVE couldn't resist the game, even after all he said about how it isn't ready he is one of the first to pre-order :p
