*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Ah, well I can see them drawing 1-2m of WoWs userbase (wouldnt topple WoW of course but thats by the by) , retaining them may well prove harder though as I do notice a tendency for WoW players to , almost seemingly inevitably, drift back to WoW.

I remember when WoW came out, I was playing EQ2 that day and the whole server had 12 people on it. I quit EQ2 that day, went into town, purchased WoW, came home and installed the game.

I can see the same happening on SWTOR launch day, Rift and WoW server will have significantly less people on them.....well for at least the first 3 months or until end game raiding is introduced into SWTOR.

I can't wait, normally the best times you have in a MMO is during the first few weeks of play :D

No MMO launch is ever painfree, but i'm praying they don't screw up and underestimate the playerbase - enough servers for all please EA!

But not too many servers so that when significant numbers leave after 30 days there are many half empty servers. They have to be wary of going too gung-ho on servers , a common mistake thats been made by many an MMO.

Yeah , other MMOs always tend to lull when a new MMO comes out, whether the lull will last as long (or as short) as 3 months we'll have to wait and see.

So the sooner you pre-order and activate your code, the earlier your early access begins? That's both marketing genius and the most horrible thing I've even seen a game company pull :D

Yeah, read that this morning! that’s why I cancelled my order online and went to the shop itself to get my code!

After today, I think EA have made up their short fall of Q3 profits!

Greedy fekkers!!

Its an amazing amount of revenue when you think about it, if 100,000 CEs are bought , thats £13 million straight off the bat. :)

already have raids! they called operations....so that should be fun!:D

yes agree 100% with that, my first 3 months of Rift was so much fun and its gone done hill from there :(

Bah, I was almost tempted to get the CE pre-order and cancel my amazon order, but I found out that once you put in the pre-order code (which I have from my amazon order) that gets locked to the account. So I would either need a new account at swtor, or have a wasted head start as it wouldn't be linked to the CE key. BAH

If you know a mate who wants to play the game, give him your account with the key you already registered. You then create another account buy the CE and problem solved.

CE edition is all on disc, which is great. I guess the only thing needed is a patch or two when you launch the game.

Code entered. Now we wait!:D

Yes but Headstart will most likely be before you get the game so you wont have the disks when you want to start playing, so therefore you HAVE to download it, really there is no point putting the disks in the box anymore...

After reading this, September might not be the launch date after all!

As anticipation grows, BioWare also proudly announced today that Star Wars: The Old Republic will open "Beta Test Weekends" starting this September. These weekend play sessions will be open to selected players worldwide and create an opportunity for fans to get a sneak peek of the epic stories, worlds, quests, battles and characters in the game.
Please visit www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com to register for game testing and to stay tuned throughout the summer for more details as they become available.

Actually, operations are like WoW 5-10 Man instances.

Currently there is no end game content in beta.

You're assuming that there will be 100,000 CE pre-orders in the UK and that they get 100% of each sale.

None of which is the case.

It's probably more like 10,000 in the UK and 50% of the sales to EA.
