I was just thinking that there is now a good chance that Berba will be 4th choice striker for majority of games with how good Hernandez and Macheda have been doing in pre-season (and Owen probably 5th)

I know its only pre-season, and the opposition isnt exactly stellar but even so, they both look really promising (Macheda's skill and Hernandez's pace) - I wouldnt be surprised if between them they easily surpass Berba's tally for last season, given they get enough time on the pitch etc.

I really hope people continue to write Utd off like they did last summer, as if the "loss" of Utd's Trophy didnt hurt enough last season, continueing to write off the same players wll only spur them on further :D:D

City will challenge. Chelsea are still my favourites, but I think Man Utd will struggle unless (as andy@moFo said) Rooney is on fire again.

If Arsenal, Man Utd or Chelsea would have signed Silva and Yaya (with the realistic prospect of Balotelli and Milner as well) their fans would have been creaming themselves.

If Yaya had signed for Utd I would definitely have cheered as we definitely need a good defensive midfielder (as apposed to a deep lieing attacking mid) which imo is what Man Utd have missed since Hargreaves has been injured. Im not convinced about Silva though.

As for Utd struggling (infront of goal) -with a new young striker who impressed at the WC and is doing well in pre-season so far, and another who had bad season due to injuries but is having a great pre-season - both seemingly going to be in the senior squad (and likely to play the first few games as Rooney definitely isnt according to SAF), No reason at all that between them they cant surpass Berba's (low scoring) season total from 09/10 between them

Berba doesnt seem to be capable of getting any more than 10 a season at Utd for some reason , or there abouts. His assists and general link up Utd could miss when he isnt playing though - although even that Im unsure about given the skill of Macheda and the outright pace of Hernandez, its actually an exciting season for Utd supporters on that front (without breakign the bank by signing a £30m wonder player)

Still hoping SAF/Gill break out the checkbook for Ozil though - that would strengthen our midfield no end imo

City will be very impressive undoubtedly (unless they have infighting due to all the "stars" being signed in one go), but they dont yet know how to win - and that takes some time to really understand , sometimes its only that belief in yoru team mates that causes a team to fail (Arsenal on a couple of occasions - even Chelsea by a hair's whisker), a lot of people over look this and it can be a small but highly contributing factor to losing those few costly points

Meh, Berba is twice the player Macheda is at the moment, wrong system or not.

we will know for sure come the end of the season - one way or the other :D

(all I meant was because Berba hasnt scored that much each season so far, its a pretty reasonable tally for a young inexperienced striker to aim for and not feel burdened by a huge target) - especialy if young striker gets a run of 2 or 3 games right at the start of the season:)

AS for Gallas not having friends in the team, its a professional team, its not playing with your mates down the park. Do you know anyone at any job who refuses to do their job well because theres someone they don't like in the office, they do a job, and they don't have to go for romantic walks in the park after. Theres MANY players out there who have won everything alongside people they completely hate, Sheringham and Cole comes to mind, couldn't stand each other, didn't matter in the slightest.

But it's much like when you have a fellow Arsenal supporter that you hate. You don't want him around because he is so negative all the time. Brings the rest of the supporters down and effects their play and love for the game. ;)

Anything in the rumour of this:

Arsenal are close to signing Italian goalkeeper Federico Marchetti from Cagliari. The 27-year-old, who played at the World Cup in South Africa, is valued at around £5m.

Whats he like, didnt get a chance to really have a look at him in the WC as they werent in it long enough :p

I reported that Marchetti story a few pages back from the Sun...as far as i know hes not that great...he replaced Buffon as he was injured and let it quite a few goals ie Croatia i think spanked 4 past him so based on that i wouldnt say hes any good but then having the ageing defence he had in front of him playing for Italy i guess he wasnt entirely to blame.

He wasn't fabulous, but was better than fabianski could ever be. I honestly think Wenger is hoping Almunia/new signing will last out until Woznejch and Mannone come good.

Didnt exactly give a "worldclass" performance for Engalnd did he.

Well to be fair to Rooney, he didnt exactly get great service and the tactics that England used were completely wrong as it were.

But i wouldnt put it past Rooney to set the EPL alight again this season.

I honestly believe Rooney is an 8/10 player who had a very good season last year. He is not the worst player in the world by a long shot but he isn't as good as everyone makes him out to be. If he can repeat his performance then hats off to him and I am wrong but I honestly don't think he will.

Berbatov has been very good pre season though

It's amazing what having players that can pass around you does.

Mannone was good when he had to cover. He is still young but very promising. I think I would have started him in front of Flapianski.

I wish Wenger would just go ### it and spend £20m on a world class CB and maybe a £15m goalie.

We could really step up a gear if we did. This is our last chance to impress Fabregas before he leaves. Even though I still think he would leave even if we won the EPL

yeah he's a decent impact player when brought on as a sub as the opposition are tiring.

We need a new midfielder still, I'm willing to give the kids a year up front to try and stake their claim. I think Chico will have a decent first season and Macheda could begin to step up further, he's got the mentality for it. I hope Welbeck does ok but he sometimes seems a little 'unlucky'.
